Plummeting Marijuana Prices for Growers

I dont think people will completely stop indoor. I know i wont. I like indoor more than any greenhouse/outdoor ive ever had. Ive had a lot of both!

I'd love to stop indoor and grow only out.
Unfortunately, at 52°N none of the sativas I grow would be anywhere near finishing. At best, perhaps, I might get away with a heated greenhouse with an augmented light schedule. And it would be nice to get the damn spare room back.

Strong case for a second place somewhere down South.

buddy got 32 a LB for OG kush IN CALI last week....socal to be exact. demand is high as hell right now. flood will bring everything down in a few weeks.

although this is not a bumper crop year for cali OD by any means...so i predict seeing the market drying up earlier in the summer. so get those packs sealed up and stashed, and get that light dep and up and running!

i really think the main driver behind higher cali prices are the exorbitant fuking electricity costs. gonna have to get me a windmill one of these days!

dispensaries and delivery services are paying good money right now in cali...and yea thats wholesale. most delivery services in socal charge 60-65 an 8th all the way up, there is no deals on OZs. if you want to buy an OZ they charge 380-400 for most of the top shelf OG kush stuff....

some clubs have 100+ lighters setup and supply most of their own meds, but alot of joints are still buying off the grey market.

up in norcal a little different....saw some good OGs last week for anywhere from 26-28 and GSC at 3-32. fresh stuff out of light deps for low 2s and early girl outdoors that just got cut for 17-18ish range. saw some Blue Knight for 17 but it wasnt as good as last years...

smoked some sour light dep a few days back that was so flavorful, some real nice quality comin out of greenhouses. flavor profiles and terpenes through the roof! hoies are selling it for 3-32 back east and most of the time its passed as indoors.

in general ive found the WA market to be a tough sell, especially in seattle area. asian cash croppers have flooded that whole market with subpar indoors in the 18-2 range and not alot of high ball clients. my friend up there just cropped some chem4 and no one offered more than 21...he also had some nice GDP for 22 by the 10pc but it was machine trimmed hardball and didnt have much color. im glad i dont have to grow herb in WA with all the lowballers and especially now that the government has sold out your marijuana legalization program to big business. just read an article today that most of the permits are going to millionaire investors....good luck to the craft industry up there.

If you have a second place on Maui....what the hell do you need that first place for again?....sorry, HZ....you gave me the shot.

Pricing? Each island is different.

So far the anticipated glut has yet to appear. That in itself is odd. Prices should be falling by now...and there not.

An outdoor lb from clone goes for 32 to 36. This price is pretty firm. The outdoor glut won't affect it much, as supply is fixed. Here you can punch clones out year round. It doesn't take anymore time per cycle, but your yield falls over Winter/Spring.

An outdoor lb of landrace Sativa from seed....22-25. This will soon fall when the flood hits to @ 16. The price should hold in that range to Xmas....if the past is any guide.

Indoor? That's where the outdoor flood makes the biggest splash. Over Summer you can get 20-25. After the flood?....your gonna want to sit on it until after Xmas. If outdoor is around, indoor takes the backseat.

These are the joys of a small closed market.

^^ So a clone of OGK grown outside fetches more than its indoor counterpart in the dead of summer??

Yes. Easily.

Pound for pound, the same cut inside vs out, the outdoor will retail for a third more. Even the big multi lb Sativas will fetch more over Summer....should you get smart and sit on your crop.

I have friends with ranches in Kauai, Maui, Oahu, and the big island. I visit frequently. These people all tell me that most of the herb in Hawaii is imported from elsewhere, not grown in the Hawaiian islands. All my friends have legal grows of a few plants with the location registered with the police. There used to be a 4 plant limit it just changed to 7 plants, and used to be 3 oz's pocession and now it is 4 oz's possession. as well Gov. Neil Abercromie signed House Bill 668, which transfers medical marijuana oversight from the state Department of Public Safety to the Department of Public Health. Not so sure if this is the law now or will be shortly.
I am not a pot smoker but I do know herb pretty well, I use it to make my dry sift, and have smoked herb and resin all around the world for 50 years.
Do you think most of the herb is produced in the Hawaiian islands or brought to the islands to sell at inflated prices to tourists? Do you think tourist sales are more or local herb smoked by locals?

Hey Sam.

Most of the product consumed here is grown here. I'd guess 80% grown here/20% import. And I include the BI as import too.

That wasn't always true. Hawaii lags a couple of years behind the mainland....in everything. Back before the "elete" clones made it here, and everything was grown from seed , Summers used to be rough. That was when we would be invaded with Dutch Treat from Alaska....of all places.

Beautiful weed. Looked, smelled, and tasted better than our outdoor, saved from last harvest. Only drawback is it didn't get you high. This would happen every summer....on every island.

Then things changed.

First of all the State brought some more dogs in. The one thing about inport is you have to bat 1000. One mistake and it's all over.

Second, MMJ became more accepted. Every year another hundred new cards were issued. Transplants from the mainland started as tourists, and never left. They brought their strains and knowledge with them.

While it is unbelievably easy to grow top shelf product here, setting yourself up to do that isn't.

The new law you site isn't going into effect until 2015. That'll be the next game changer.

Did you know that 81% of the island is owned by 7 entities?

The cheapest shitty house for sale here (with water) will set you back a quarter million. That shitty house is in the middle of a subdivision of equally shitty houses, each on a 6,000 sq ft lot.
Unless kept under lock and key, with a few dogs, those plants will disappear long before harvest.

If you rent, very few landlords are gonna' say "Sure, go right ahead. You feel free to tear up the backyard for your medicine".

So these newcommers do the same thing they did on the mainland, Get the card, open up a room or two, and put a couple outside for personal stash.

Now most of the indoor is grown here.

That doesn't mean a container or two doesn't show up. It does. After a week or two everyone has seen it, the message has gotten around and usualy nobody wants it. Then it has to go to the only people that don't know any better....Guess who?

The tourists.

Let's bring them into this. Much as I'd like to see them taken care of....and I'm serious. The're the ones that spread the word. Dealing with tourists is a good way to get caught. On the totem pole they are at the bottom. Overall, I doubt they consume more than 20% of the entire pie. No repeat business, soon they'll be gone, and a totaly new batch in town...so they get pissed on.
Kinda a bummer if you ask me.

Mr Fortune....Good luck with that.
