Let's say you had a house with nothing using electricity other than 8000 watts on a 12/12 cycle my math might be wrong but at 10cents a kilowatt hour that comes to
$288 a month im not factoring in rates of peak hours but it wouldnt cost much more.

That seems like a normal bill am I right??

You are forgetting the other charge that they also charge you. I don't remember what they call it but it's right under the price per KWH. I think it's called distribution charge and it's around the same price as the KWH so double those rates that you have. Also you are not taking into account the Air Conditioning and 1000 Watt Ballasts use more than 1000 watts. Some ballasts can use around 200 more watts than the original 1000. My Lumatek ballasts use 1050 watts to run 1000 Watt Hortilux. So an 8,000 watt flowering room with no VEG room would be closer to $700 / month for AC, Lights, pumps and fans and stuff like that.

I know I was talking just the lights not all the other stuff it should come out to $288 and i know what you mean about the ballast so you should be pretty close with a guess of $700 a month for everything.
Thats getting up there in price but still doesn't seem like it would really draw attention so why don't more people have larger grows?

I'll have to look at my bill and see about distribution charge or whatever it is they add

8 lights is a shit load of work. Been running 10,000 watts for years and it's a full time job. Not everyone wants a full time job. A far as drawing attention, when all your neighbors bills are $100 in the spring and fall and yours is $700, you stand out.

I have no plumbing or AC, just a refrigerator. All the garden rooms together run a total of 7800 watts.
5900 watts at 12/12 and the rest varies 16/8 to 18/6.
Totals for the month are 4400 KWH, never mind the cost as that varies everywhere. The average home in my area is around 3000 KWH/month so I am well within the limits.
My sister lives in an area where the average is 5000 KWH/month, so no set number works everywhere.

Areas with smart meters are the problem, those meters tell when the power is used, 12/12 is a bright red flag on them if the local laws allow an enforcement agent free fishing.
Our utility does not allow this, others in the state do allow fishing, it depends on the chairman of the utility.
Other states have other laws taking it out of the jurisdiction of the utility.

i know its a shit load that's why I thought my math was off my bill now without growing is usually around 300

My house has an electric stove and water heater. The Kw used by these reduce the Kw available to the grow room if I want to fly below the radar. Keep this in mind when looking for a place. Myself, I need to replace both appliances with ones that use gas.
