I'm just your averaged, mid 40's guy doing my first grow. I have/had a sponsor that helped me get going but he's a flake so I'm basically solo. My sponsor gave me a dozen mixed strains. Who knows if they are what he said they are, I gave them names of course. I haven't found a confidant yet but there are lots in my area, legal state of Washington. My wife doesn't want to help because I micro manage and have a bit of the OCD....so she says.
I've had the girls for about 4 weeks now but 2 weeks of it they have struggled. They came to me a bit sick and before I was totally ready with their new room. I started with 2-125 watt CFL bulbs while they were still in cups during construction. I think I transplanted them to soon and didn't add fine dolomite to the soil like I should have. I used FoxFarms Ocean green soil which I think was also a mistake because it has nutes in it and I'm using nutes on top of that. I also didn't add Cal-Mag or anything else other than FoxFarms Sledge Hammer.
I've made a million notes prior to starting my grow but hadn't consolidated them yet so I made a few mistakes in the beginning. My info has came from YouTube, several books, other internet sources, a few growers identified and a few on the down low. No one with knowledge above my own has seen my set up yet.
I switched to a 400 watt HPS bulb with a cheap reflector, a good exhaust fan and better insulation for the room after the second week. The girls had only been feed once after transplanting and had only plain water misted on them for the next week after the switch in lights. They were looking much better. They went from a lite greenish yellow to almost hunter green within the week.
2 days before their 2nd feeding, a week after their first, I switched light set ups again. I changed to an air-cooled reflective hood that I connected my exhaust fan to with 6" duct. I also added a 6" inline fan that is attached to the ceiling of my basement, outside of the room, with a 6 foot piece of duct attached so that fresh air is brought in at ground level. The room is holding temp at 82 degrees and between 50% and 60% humidity with lights on and 70 degrees with 50% humidity with lights off. I seems perfect.
The day before feeding I noticed some rusty colored spots on a few of the leaves. I know it's not good I'm just not sure what to do about it. Flush them? There isn't anything to flush. I haven't given them any nutes for the last week and they have greatly improved. My 3 pronged PH, moisture and light meter says PH is at just below 7 and moisture is good to great. Maybe the lack of Cal-Mag in the soil is causing it. That or the lack of fine dolomite. I didn't have either when I transplanted. I wasn't ready to start growing yet.
5 out of the original 12 barely grew at all, maybe 2 inches if that. I know at least 4 of the 7 strong girls are mostly indica and 1 sativa. The strong girls have tripled in size in the last 3 weeks. purpleking those rust spots are either mag deficiency or your ph is way off and your locked out. what size containers and what type of containers are they in. I have never had good luck with soil ph meter. the sledge hammer is a flushing agent so give her a good flush, like 5 gallons, and get a ph water meter. ph your water between 5.5-6.3 after adding nutes. I would flush with ph adjusted water and give them some nutes and cal-mag. look into using some General Hydroponics flora micro 6ml and flora bloom 9ml cal-mag 2.5 ml per gallon every feeding, half strength first week on clones. use through week 4 of flower and swith to GH kool bloom powder or fox farm cha ching until flush. you will have great success with this recipe, I have and a lot of other people on here do to. its very easy and cheap, screw buyin 50 different bottles they tell you you need, its all hype to make more money.
you shouldn't be feeding them plants purpleking, unless you hve them in bloom, which it doesn't sound like you do. You shouldn't anyway, if you just xplanted from cups, they are so small.

Flush them out. Run a good amount of water through the pots, that should help.

No growth = (probably) too much nutes or temp too high. And you are at a pretty high temp. 85 is the magic number when osmosis stops, and the roots can no longer do their job. Where are you reading your temps at? It can vary a LOT in the same room at different locations.

I just bought some PH down so I can lower the PH in tap water for flushing and feeding. I check them in the early am before work but lights are out and I can't see much. I spend at least an hour with them every day. Not always touching them but inspecting them. Today will be day 3 of the noticeable rusty blotches. I'll know today if it's lock out, if it is I will flush. I can't see how it can be lock out though. They haven't had any nutes in over a week. In that week I haven't feed them anything other than a distilled plain water mist. They have went from lite greenish yellow to almost a hunter green, and bigger too. I noticed the blotches the day I was going to feed them nutes for the first time. It wasn't bad so I feed them anyway.

Never tried it, but re-vegging is apparently a crap shoot. OTOH, I seem to recall that you're here in Colorado, so obtaining good genetics after Jan 1 really shouldn't be a problem.

I think it might be my lights being to close or low mag. I am planning on using root stimulator from general hydro and cal-mag mixed into their next feeding.
I'm starting with Canna Substra veg in 2 parts and so far that's all they have gotten. I'm still piecing together my equipment and have just ordered a PH pen. I know my 3 pronged meter is crap but it's all I have at the moment. I am accepting donations, LOL. Getting Cal-Mag today after work. I just feed them a day ago so I should wait to add Cal-Mag until they need to be feed again, right? It appears that only the older leaves are having the issue, not the new growth.

The lights are ok I think. I know the hand test. Should I just get some Epsom salt and do a spray 2 times a week to see if it clears? Instead of Cal-Mag or something like it.

I veg clones for 2 weeks, week 1 3 ml micro, 4.5 bloom, second weeks on 6/9ml every watering. it is more likely its ph, a $30 pen will be worth it until you can get a better meter.

It's been 3 days since their last feeding and I don't see any nute burning. My room is holding 82/55 on and 75/60 off. I added 2 better fans for inside. More action in the room now, not too much though. A nice breeze. They are looking good.
I put 4 shorties that were just not making it into 1 pot and moved them to the back of the light area. They are growing too. Not sure what I'm going to do with them though. Can't transplant them again, they're growing together. 3 of them are really doing well, side by side in the same pot.
The PH levels are all below 7 and just above 6. Still having the rusty leaves, I can't tell yet if it's getting better since the feeding with CalMax and BioRoot added. All seems good so far. I've met several ladies in my area that work at different garden shops that are growing and glad to give advice, all noobs like me though.

the rusty leaves wont look any better as long as they don't look worse and the new growth looks healthy they are fine. when you get a pen ph your water between 5.5 and 6.3. depending on what strength nutes im running my ph is from 5.5-5.9, my filtered tap water is 6.1. see ph swings and your plant takes different nutes up at different ph levels and the swing is from 5.3 to 7, so if you are feeding your plants at 7 they cant suck the nutes needed. i cant remember which npk and ph levels take in were but they have charts on here. if you are not using ro water it useually isn't cal or mag.

i remember my first grow my plants were big and healthy and about to swap to flower and they got rusty and started yellowing thought just like you and it was ph because at the time my water was 7.2, and my soil ph meter was reading low 6. i started to flush with my ph to 5.8 and immediately bounced back and never had a problem since.
