Oldtimer's Haze

I finally thought I had time to read all the way through this thread but I was wrong. Sorry Ace'rs, would you be able to give me a quick tidbit of info?

I live in a place, like most, where plant count is a factor in criminal charges so I want to keep my plant count below 6 (realistically about 10) so that I stay legal. I purchased two packages of OTH.

IN MY OPINION, NOT ONLY ARE YOU SOME OF THE MORE QUALIFIED CANNABIS BREEDERS I KNOW OF, YOU ARE EXTREMELY GENEROUS: BOTH PACKS CONTAINED MORE SEEDS THAN THE 10 ADVERTISED. THANKS.

The question is, if I grow out 8 of these seeds, what are the chances that a purple phenotype will emerge?

If a purple phenotype emerges, at what point does it become evident that it is a purple (when does it "show its true colors")?

To maintain the genetics but try to develop an all purple population, how would one select for a purple male? Do the males develop purple leaf blades/petioles, or purple pollen sacks?

Is your purple haze selected from OTH stock in this fashion?

I also just purchased Vietnam Black x Thai and Purple Haze x Thai: I know these are not the subject of this thread, but are purple phenotypes more common in either of these, meaning I would be better off germinating 8 seeds of either as opposed to OTH? (Moot point really since I already have 4 OTH seedlings :dance013: (100% germ)

I would really appreciate the information. Id go for a green haze over a colorful hybrid any day, but if you can have both, why not?? Saludos.

Greetings Bear Riot,

I think we at ACE have already achieved what you are trying to breed. The purple haze traits are available in quite stable form in the 'pure' Purple Haze and the Purple Haze Thai. Purple Haze Thai is our hybrid haze line that has been stabilized more towards the purple haze traits.

The purple haze traits are more frequent in the latest Oldtimer's Haze reproduction (late 2011) than previous ones. Usually around half of the oldtimer's haze plants will show more or less purple/reddish colors.

The purple trait is not very recessive in this line, you can produce a very colorful new haze generation just by crossing purple females with purple males.

You can identify the purple haze colors and traits in your females mainly in the second half of flowering and the males earlier, when they start to flower. Hope it helps!

Hey dubi I see these available at another popular vendor online. Was the Purple Haze 23 mother used for them?

Hi Gerard,

Yes, the Purple Haze 23 is my favourite purple haze parental plant and the one i've used mainly to breed the latest purple haze and purple haze thais.

Actually, yes. Here is a Dj Short Flo male which was purple in veg and had a real nice earthy smell to it, so I kept it to pollinate a GHS Marley's Collie (Jamaican x Maple Leaf Indica) I had lying around.

Interestingly, this particular Flo male was basically sterile. From what I hear, this is pretty standard of DJ Short's lines. I cut it, and beat it against my Marley's like a feather duster until it had no flowers left. I got 1 whole bean from the project - which when we grew it out was a male. I named the male "Retarded Monkey Fish Frog" (watch southpark sometime) and then used that male to cross to everything based on how robust it was.

The resulting crosses have all been colorful, earthy / marley's collie smelling, vigorous and pretty indestructible.

Hola Terpene :)

It's a pitty to hear all the breeding problems with dj short males. As i commented previously with Ur Humbl Nr8tor, i am very interested to see a purple haze (or purple haze thai ) x flo (or blueberry) hybrid, but of course using a healthy, fertile non hermie male ... im not so familiarized with dj short latest work, so i can not evaluate properly what is the problem with the males from his lines, but for what i have seen around, the females show outstanding quality so may consider to reverse a very desirable flo or blueberry to pollinate purple haze females.

Thanks dubi, truly great plants these Hazes. I now have my mothers under a CFL in small pots, on 18/6, they all are happy. It does look like I messed up the cuttings on one of them though. Went all mushy at the top. It has roots, so it may survive. Here is to hope!

Thats what i wanted to ask too! Great to know!
Thinking about screw next outdoor season and stimulate flowering from start in whole greenhouse full of sativas.
The #23 really grab my heart, the kind of colombian purple haze I want (than the #12 in opposite), sooo great you still use her. Any words on male side of this PHz line?
Looks I will buy some seeds after long long long time again :)
Btw. hows the common fm/m ratio in this PHz line? Want to preselect chicks during winter and then flowering from cuts soon as spring temps allows it.

High female ratios are not unheard of in the haze line...

Hi Bohempian,

The Purple Haze 23 mum was pollinated by purple males from her descendency (backcrossed) to produce our Purple Haze version.

The female ratio is usually very high in the haze population, also in the haze thais and in the other very tropical sativas.

To be honest Dubi, Dj's Flo was really pretty, but the smoke was nothing to really write home about. I was pretty disappointed in the sterile male, but 1 bean is better than no beans. I agree, it would be interesting to see one of his colorful lines Blueberry / Flo / F13 female dusted with a male Purple Haze, that could be really colorful.

I bred my Flo male to my GHS Marley's collie (jamaican x maple leaf indica) only because the Flo was exceptionally colorful. My goal in this cross was to create a dense, squatty Jamaican cross with a ton of fall color. I love the smiley happy high of Jamaican lines.

Of the two plants I selected to run, one was male and the other was female. The female was beaned up with another male I had lying around (purple white widow x tom hill haze) Here's what she looked like:

hi terpene-

Don't know if you vaporize, but it's a great way to go with seeded bud- no sparky mini-explosions that you get when smoking.

And as a bonus, toasted seeds taste pretty good. :) Since everything I grow gets thrown in the volcano chamber I don't even bother with extensive trimming. Happiness is a chamber very lightly packed with 6+month-cured foxtails.

eventually want to grow this, can anyone tell me if i could finish in nz at 37 south in a green/glass house. We have one of the most intense uv ratings in the world from the thin o zone layer over here; would be interesting to see what old timer would produce under our sun. Australia would be very interesting too.

Dubi could tell ya best

But Id imagine that they would do Amazing down there ,Especially if you have a green house . I recall several Pure sativas being grown down there ,Kanga is a great example He grew out if i recall Gyspy thai /another thai source /Oaxcan /Kariba with success . Respect an love an Best Wishes to the big homie

Your local is almost exact opposite The original Haze was grown at 36N in green houses an i believe outdoors aswell .

I'd love too see what you could do with her in your area . I was hoping THH would also get some love under your sun ,If i recall its been done with success aswell by our brother DM

Terpene is the man.

Yeah I think kanga is a bit more north maybe 28S? can't remember but his plants were out of this world man, you really can grow super monsters in the northern territory but nz is a bit colder. Did he do a mullimbimby madness grow?.

Yeah i'm pretty confident I could do a successful OT haze grow but it would definitely have to be in a green house. Our sun is vicious bro, today it was only 19c and I was getting light headed from the heat when I was painting today. Our outdoor has a very good reputation from the sun rays getting 12+ uv and uvb ratings in the summer making the plants defend themselves with more trichome output I think, we have the worst ozone leakage in the world, even 24 degree days are killer man. I have been to egypt and the heat is completly different- ours feels like a toaster is being held over you.

Best vibes bro.

Hi kiwi,

Im also at 37 latitude but north :) If your weather is coastal and mild/warm in autumn then you can finish haze outdoors without problems, but if you are growing in a continental climate with frosts, snow, dry ambient and very high temp variation between day and night then you will need a greenhouse to mature them correctly in the last 2 months of flowering. Unless you live in a tropical/subtropical area, the use of a greenhouse is recommended to get the best of this kind of tropical sativas, you will get better quality and yield, the purple haze surprisingly resists quite well the cold temps.

Hope it helps!

Welcome nigel420,

The fastest oldtimer's haze pheno is a compact and columnar green haze pheno that usually takes 14-16 weeks, the rest of the phenos usually need 16-20 weeks depending on the growing variables, sexual maturity of the plant, etc ....

You can easily identify this faster flowering pheno because her structure, thicker main stem and bigger wider leaves. It's more present in our green haze releases. Hope it helps!
