I got a 70-300mm lens made by Sigma for my D3000. Pretty inexpensive all things considered, I'd recommend one if you ever want a telephoto.

I have the same lens for my Canon Xti. Would recommend this lens to anyone. My only problem with a telephoto lens is I have to use a mono or tri-pod to get rid of the shakes. But that's me not being able to hold that long lens steady, not any problems with the lens.

Haha I have a AF Nikkor 70-300mm too, need to dust it off been years since I've used it!
