Some of you need to read my post a lil closer. You don't have to access your breaker box. The yellow wire in my picture is simply replaced with the tool cord (or half an extension cord. They are the same thing only you don't have to cut the tool cord, and it's cheaper than an extension cord. Make sure you get 12 awg wire for either choice). You just plug the tool/extention cord into a normal wall outlet in your room, the other end is wired to the timer. Then plug the light(s) into the outlet(s) attached to the timer. If you only have one light, just wire one outlet to the timer and use a smaller outlet box to hold it. If I have time I'll snap some pics and do a tutorial on how to wire one of these later this week or next. It's really painfully simple.

Save yourself a couple bucks and buy the tool replacement cord. It's just a replacement for the wire that normally comes attached to most power tools, like a drill. One end has the part that plugs into the wall, the other end has the wires already stripped and ready for the timer. You will find the replacement cords right along side the extension cords in home depot or where ever. Either way will work, just kind of a waste to buy an extension cord.

I'll try and remember to leave a link in this thread when I do the tutorial. If you don't see it up in a week, just shoot me a reminder here or in pm.

To rep a post you just click on the scale icon just below everyone's username. It's the middle of the three.

Well, i figured why it was turning off in the middle of the night. the pins at 3-4am wernt all the way pushed down causing it to turn off, and immediately back on giving me a standby

i still think its my bulb though. because when it turns off at 3 am, it should turn back on which it doesnt until i unplug it and plug back in.

You can use the 14/2 <----not 3 (there are 3 wires, but it's called 14/2 because the ground wire isn't counted, only the conductors) for anything 15 amps and under up to about 25ft in length. If you intend to extend the power cord for a ballast to that length i'd definitely go with a 12/2 cord/wire. Longer runs require larger wire, even if you are still using under 15 amps. Honestly it's not something you should be altering on your ballast if you don't understand electricity that well.

Thanks Mr. D.

Read your post more closely, amazing what I miss!!! WTF, is wrong with me.

All good my man. Us stoners are entitled to miss a thing or two every once in a while

It won't turn back on because phantom's, and most other digitals, have a built in hot restart timer. Once power is cut, the ballast will wait a set amount of time (5-10min) then turn the bulb back on, preventing a hot start. You can over ride that by unplugging and plugging it back in. I still strongly encourage you to change your timer. The one you are using is just a ticking time bomb waiting to go up in flames. I've seen a lot of people get busted because their room lit up from one of those timers and the fire dept. ended up finding the grow.

only tool replacement cord lowes/home depot carries around me is 14/3 and above. Should i go with a 12 AWG extension cord like orginally planned?

I will change my timer, but least i can sleep now without having to unplug and plug back in. I'm going to use the tutorial you post to change it. You seem like you know your shit, so im going to listen to you, someone who already knows :)

ok will do, thanks man. i still dont see the scale to be able to rep you. maybe i need a certain amount of posts?

Ya you probably need 50 posts to rep people. There's a page somewhere that explains what options open up at what post count. No worries on the rep though, doesn't mean a thing to me .
