Recommend A Movie Thread

If youre into documentaries that explore sociology, philosophy and political history, Adam Curtis is where you need to look. I highly recommend the following movies:

The Century of Self- a film that examined how Freud's theories of the unconscious shaped the development of PR and advertising

The Living Dead- The way that history and memory (both national and individual) have been used by politicians and others.

The Power of Nightmares-Parallels between the rise of Islamism in the Arab world and Neoconservatism in the United States in that both needed to inflate a myth of a dangerous enemy in order to draw people to support them.

The Trap- A modern interpretation of freedom

I need to de-recommend a movie. Just saw WWZ last night...phew, didn't expect it to be so bad. Started off kinda OK, although it was obvious from the start that it would approach the zombie film as summer blockbuster. But about halfway through, snickers started started wafting up from the audience, soon to turn into heehaws and then guffaws. Not the response you want from a monster movie.

Don't waste your time with this one.

The Great Gatsby.

I was forced to watch the original in high school. Hated it. This movie was really nice. Super modern editing and digital effects that were really cool. A tip for any movie and film nerds.

A good story and final film. It kind of mirrored life for me in a certain way. Probably not a good film for younger guys. But good for older types and marrieds. Maybe. lol

You'll have to watch and find out what I mean.

Your girlfriend will like you for it. It won't put you to sleep. Watch it with her.
