flora 3 part and ppm's question

hey everyone,i have been growing with flora series for about a year now...the one thing i notice is that it takes over 12 cap fulls of nutrient in a 5 gallon bucket of water to make 1000 ppm's.......seems like a lot of nutrient to get to that ppm......any thoughts on this?

That seems right. I mean, a "cap full" isn't really a scientific measurement... And are you referring to 12 total cap fulls or 12 cap fulls from each bottle?

5 gallons of water is ~18.9L
1ppm = 1mg/L
1000ppm in 5 gallons of water is 18,900mg of element salts, or 18.9 grams.

The products themselves are some where south of 10% elements by weight so it would take maybe 200ml to get that many grams of salt in the solution. If each cap full is like 15-20ml... then it makes perfect sense.

Also, 1000ppm is crazy strong.

^ What he said. And yes, that is super strong. You must have some hungry plants, because that would fry all of the plants I grow.

Regarding "capfuls"... Why not just use a measuring cup?

1000 ppms isnt super strong.....i get up to 1800 all the time...with NO adverse effects
im no newb,i go by ppm's,but to hit 1000 ppms i need 6 capfuls of bloom,3 cap fulls of micro and 3 capfuls of grow..

when you have a ppm meter all i need to know is ratios of npk.

Well, PPM is an absolutely terrible way to explain what you do online.

Are you using a 0.5 conversion? A 0.7 conversion? Maybe a 0.6, or 0.66... basically, all PPM readings are based on EC conversions. Since EC is EC no matter what meter is used then it's much, much, more useful to talk about EC online.

1000ppm on a 0.5 conversion is 2.0ec, and that is high (despite your personal experience).
But, on a 0.7 conversion 1000ppm is only 1.43ec, which is actually quite normal.

So, as you can see here, using PPM online is misleading and demonstrates an ignorance towards why we need to stop relying on conversions when measuring the electrical conductivity is the only relatable and valuable information available. If you do not want to mislead other growers then it is prudent to use EC when talking about nutrient strength, or at the very least indicate what meter and conversion is used to get the PPM reading.

The recommended levels for Flora series is 20ml-22.5ml per gallon of them all combined to hit about that same nutrient level you are aiming for. So, in a 5 gallon bucket that's 100ml-125ml per mix. I still don't know what volume a "cap full" is but it still seems to me like you're using about what you should expect to.

Flora Series is not the most concentrated line.

1800 PPMs is way too much nutrients than you need. With my 55" bushes, I only max out at 2 EC / 1000 PPM (500 conversion).

Not all stains will burn from 1800 PPM but you don't get increase of yield and flavor this way. I used to use 2000 PPM for 10 years and thought I was supposed to and then I made my way down to below 1000 PPM and got much better flavor and denser buds. I also don't use the FloraVeg anymore because the FloraMicro has all the VEG nutes that you need. By the way, it the pictures these plants were being flushed and the leaves are supposed to be turning.
