cannabis oil/extraction solvent

Hi all. I'm looking for some help to make some cannabis oil from my upcoming crop. After reading so much and the many different methods/solvents I find myself totally confused. I got interested in trying to do this after seeing the video below: http://www.youtube.com/results?q=es...c.1.23.youtube-reduced..0.10.1152.JMgRux2B5C0

In this method which looks so easy the solvent used is 190proof alcohol wbich is not available in my country. Store purchased 100 proof is all that's available herewhich I don't think is good enough, is it?
My next option is some type of ethanol. Now I have no idea which is the best but mainly healthiest so I'm hoping someone can chime in and help me understand what I need to be doing here. This website is a company here in Ireland which sell solvent, these are available to me if anyone will have a look.

Thank you

The 190 proof is called Everclear in the US. It's not sold in every state. This product is in fact Ethanol, or grain alcohol also called drinking alcohol. It must be 190 proof or there is too much water, the extraction power gets too weak, and the water in it attracts lots of chlorophyl. 99%Isopropyl alchohol can be used as a solvent but should be well purged from the oil as it's being decarboxylated by heat. It's toxic though not acutely so to my knowledge (half pint kills you I've read several places). Some have used light fraction Naphtha but it's variability in the marketplace can make it somewhat tricky, and it's possible that it could contain some amount of Benzene, a super cancer causing organic compound. Hexane or Pentane would be decent solvents but obtaining good grades for Cannabis oil extraction may be pretty expensive. The organic solvents (light atomic weights) are non-polar so are good for pulling only what's desirable and very little chorophyl and other undesirable constituents. Of course there is 3X to 7X filterered Butane for making Butane Honey Oil (I've never made it) but methods for doing it are all over the net. I have made many batches of Cannabis oil (RSO style) using 99%isopropyl alch. and Everclear, which I like the most as others who use that oil cannot complain about possible residual solvent that could be toxic.

Good luck, donb5

Hi again Irishbud,

Probably the easiest and least confusing way to learn to make the Rick Simpson oil (RSO or Phoenix Tears) is to go to the man himself, Rick Simpson. He is not the first to extract cannabinoids from Cannabis but may be the first to mass educate on it. 'Run from the Cure' movie is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvosdIXyjWM

Rick's extraction instructions start at about 29:20 within the video, or a few seconds after. They are quite coherent and clear for the beginner. We used them to start making oil almost two years ago, and everything, including the final oil product, went beautifully. Our friend got over his predicted-to-be-terminal cancer eating it a gram a day for less than 90 days, and we were very relieved that we did it right.

And I recommend if you have someone that has cancer that needs this oil quickly, please don't get sidetracked by the many who may talk about some or other pet extraction scheme, even fellow stoners who want you to use their method for making hash, or even BHO and absolutes, etc. Those methods might work fine but it is really no time to fool around. The Simpson protocol has been shown many times, all over the world, to work and that is what ur after when trying to save a sick family member, friend, relative or other person. I think its' obvious how you don't need to mess around when in a bind like that.
