Butane for best hash?

Is butane extraction the best for purest quality hash? Is there another alternative that produces same quality concentrates without using butane?

How do you extract via CO2?

Can anyone recommend a good tutorial video?

CO2 is the purest, you cant do it without exspensive equipment however. Next best and the most feasible is butane

Got a reference for that? Supercritical c02 is a solvent, and most oil I've seen made/documented with c02 goes through winterization with Ethanol, which is another solvent, as c02 produces quite waxy/opaque oil.

On the other hand, butane can be purified beyond the 99.99% level (see the canned lube thread with closed loop extractors) and can come out pristine product with no need for winterization.

I am sure c02 oil can be as well. Just offering a counter to "c02 is purest" with no backing.

If there is good trim/shake, how much can you extract from 1lb to wax if done properly?

They list 5.7% - 25%. but absolute, so I assume post winterization weights.


Unless you have $25,000 to drop on c02 extraction, it's not really doable atm. Maybe soon it'll become cheaper. And if all you're doing is running a pound occasionally, a closed loop butane extractor is the way to go.

Butane works best out of the solvents I've tried so far. This weekend I'm trying an experiment with hexane, which I've read good things about.

You'll find lots of good youtube videos if you search for BHO. There's a lot of good info on this site too. It's best to read enough first so you understand the process before you watch the videos.

You can make a fine extraction any number of different ways, but butane does a nice job and is the cheapest and easiest way that I've personally found.

Propane is probably second.

It is relatively easy to extract the terpenes, including the diterpene cannabinoids, but holding on to the monoterpenes while purging is the challenge.

C02 is capable of pristine extraction, but is slow and expensive as compared to butane. A lot of folks working on developing that process, so I expect to see a lot of progress in that arena. The finest orange oil extract that I've had the pleasure of sniffing and tasting, was a C02 extract.

Hexane makes a pristine extraction blindfolded, but is harder to purge and you lose more of the lighter terpenes purging it.

Pentane does a good job, is easier to purge than Hexane, but is more expensive.
