Approx at what point in flower do you defoliate - As leaves yellow or before?

i only pulled leaves from this plant after a few photos as i was chopping it. in flower i only yank if yellow or dying. there is one indica strain that needs the big fans that grow inward to be pulled for max yield.

this is alpha is probably the frostiest plant i have grown.
