Meh.

We need all the support we can get. I'll take even tepid support rather than opposition.

We don't need to conflate the issues, either.

His opinion is based on the tide of public opinion, and don't mean SHIT to Me!
This prick is going to beat the war drums till His one good arm falls off, and get thousands of Our Troops killed, and maimed physically, and mentally.

I think you are selling this statement short -- and by a LOT.

This man is a sitting Senator. He remains an important member of the Republican caucus and is, to my knowledge, the only nominee for President of a major party to express even tepid support for legalization. Ever. In the 80s or 90s - that sort of comment would have been utterly sensational to make.

I think it's a sign of the times and as the link in my sig notes below, it's all moving in the right and inevitable direction and John McCain can read the polling trends and the demographics and sees it too. That means that most of his other colleagues in the US Senate ALSO know which way the demographic train is headed and they know it's only a matter of time. And THAT is excellent.

As for attacking a politician in a democracy for merely "going with the tide" of public opinion -- that's a lil nutty. If politicians in Washington actually LISTENED to the majority opinion in America, the country would be in a far better state than it is now.

If legalization was an on again, off-again weather vane swaying in the wind -- or a cyclical tide that ebbs and flows, I might care more about a politician's personal preferences. But when the trend is generational, inevitable and moves in one direction only? I am perfectly satisfied with a politician whose opinion is "based on the tide of public opinion" when it comes to legalization.

And you should be happy with that, too.

I do agree with that sentiment, fatigues.
After all they ARE supposed to listen to,,, We The People.
But, public opinion on "boots on the ground", and another decades long WAR
is overwhelmingly against this approach, and yet he is PIMPING that BULL SHIT HARD.

I just cant reconcile the two, and because I am involved in this world, some how I can ignore the Detrimental nature of what he thinks is needed in another countries Civil War.

The beauty of this Representative Republic, is that we can think others, " a little nutty" and still respect the rights of THE NUTS, to express Our views.

Peace; 1TT

so, since he will cater to win votes for re-election, he should start by avoiding war.

...maybe another 'Hemp for Victory' newsreel? would help...

McCain- "Maybe I should help you guys out."

Raving Stoners- "Fuck You! Kiss my ass!"

I'm certainly no fan of his, and it's obvious that he's checking the wind direction, trying to ride a wave of public opinion, pandering for votes.

OTOH, politics makes for strange bedfellows, always has, so thank you, Senator McCain.

Totally off topic, but I do not favor US intervention in Syria. OTOH, I don't see it as being like the invasion of Iraq, but more like the operation in Libya, if it happens at all.

I disagree with him on a lot of issues, but it's good to see someone with his influence support legalization. I don't like Pat Robertson either; I just like how he supports ending the prohibition laws. It's cool to see support for legalizatition coming from people who aren't interested in getting high. If we want to change the laws, we need all the support we can get.

I trust McCain as much as I trust Obummer or Harper. I honestly will never care what these fools say they have already proven their asinine behaviour over and over again. Obama ,McCain,Harper are "WAR MONGERING CRIMINALS" that really need to be arrested! Lets just take a quick look at the G20 meetings and what these complete asshole spent our money talking about WAR! Did the thought of Fukushima even come up? NO just how Obummer wants WAR and he wants everyone else to join. Our leaders are anything but and I have ZERO trust in any of them headband 707:)
