Hobbiest wants to go Semi-Pro

Hi! I am a retired Vietnam Vet. I have been smoking for a LONG time, but legally for only a few years. I have been attempting to grow with some success for those few years but never felt in control. I am here to get more information and learn to go from Hobbiest to Semi-Pro. I want to grow for my collective and get compensated for such (I am a MMJ patient in California), but need to clean up my act and get reliable, quality, medical grade bud production. I have a bit of equipment and can improvise more, but have to hold my monthly expenses down as I am on a fixed retirement with, at present, no other source of income. I could grow great quality inside if I could afford the lights and AC. I could grow with sunlight in a greenhouse and get near that quality, with work, but would still have to pay the AC cost. I have dabbled in Hydro, Aero, and soil and am presently looking into a system that is much like wicking Hydro.

My first questions are what root space I need for a wicking hydro grow? I have some 12 boxes ready for use but I am concerned about root space requirements for a plant that is aprox 4.5-5.0 foot tall and 4 foot diameter. I can feed them with the wick system I presently have or a top feed system with a safety reservoir. I plan and have equip. for an auto water system with automatic neutrent dosing.

I still have to solve my AC problem but it will soon be cool enough to proceed and solve the AC by next April. I plan to populate 10 by 10 of a 10 by 12 (foot) greenhouse with five foot multi-top plants.:plant grow: With luck it will deliver 100 ounces per harvest, which makes me Semi-pro and requires my collective's documentation.

So, long intro, but you know my plan. Can anyone answer my "first question" about root space?:thank you:

Not looking for greenhouse advise. That is my cross to bear and problem to solve. What I wanted to know is can I grow, by wick hydro, a plant that is at least 3 ft diameter and 5 foot tall in a planter with a grow media space 39" long by 14" wide by 10" deep? There is a barrier that lets air in the bottom and a water reservoir below that holds 2 to 3 gal. of nutes, which are wicked up to the media. Will it work or do I need more space?
