Spot on Fred. Looking back, they are right about 53 days bloom or 7.5 weeks flower.
It's been a long while since I've grown this Afghani mango, but I'll likely let her go until 70 days or possibly more. I'm pretty sure others take it 10wks +.
I normally don't go by trich color, but rather just visually watching the ripening/fattening process. The buds are now beginning to really chunk up day by day. When the bud structure looks to have come one with the hairs I know they're getting close...when the hairs will no longer protrude from the flower.
I'm unsure of how I'll do. I think it still may be a lower then average harvest, but we'll have to see. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I was starting to get skeptical, but I'm really seeing them pack on the weight now. Every day some of the lower branches will have flopped over and needing a yo-yo to keep them in the sweet spots.
Unfortunately I didn't really do any real pruning (which I don't believe this variety needs a lot of), but they might have benefited a little as I do have a bunch of smalls all over the place. They are dense though, but going to make trimming a bit more lengthy.
I've sort of allowed myself to fall off my game this grow, and priors really. I've dealt with a strain which has given me nothing but trouble for nearly a year and then after realizing it was 100% strain related I then ran into some trouble with coco in the new PPKs / new strain. I've also had a total crop failure at a remote (friend ran) spot with some horizontal tents, but that's a another story entirely. Too much heat, basement taking on water during non-stop storms, and possibly missed waterings.. not really sure. It needs torn down and re-worked proper.
Has had me bummed and I've kinda lost interest. I'm excited to finish this run.. clean up everywhere and start fresh with turface in my PPKs.
