Ruined BHO ????

I had just finished a batch of BHO and placed 12 grams in a vacuum pump attached to a mason jar to purge it further. I ran the pump and let the jar sit for about 15 min with the pump off and the oil from the pump back flowed into the jar and covered my BHO. Is there any way to clean the vacuum pump oil off of the BHO or is this just a tough lesson learned and a loss of the oil?

You get your pump from harbor freight? Think its a lesson learned

I feel for you bud, it's an unfortunate situation. I've heard people make suggestions of washing the oil with other solvents to remove the pump oil, but IMHO I wouldn't smoke it. I'd trash it and move on with a hard lesson learned..

This is not a pump error, this is a user error. When you turn pump off the negative pressure creates a vacuum on the pump and the mineral oil gets sucked back into your chamber. You need a real degassing chamber, not a mason jar, with ball valve on the chamber and a inline shutoff valve in between your pump and chamber. This way you can close the inline shut off valve, turn the pump off and your chamber will hold its vacuum, with out mineral oil being sucked into it. The ball valve on your chamber will allow you to properly release the negative pressure, while the inline valve is closed.

By the way this has been asked so many times here maybe try searching and reading before asking very basic questions.

o and toss the oil it's garbage.

What MH says about the partial vacuum back flowing the pump oil. You need a full flow ball valve between the pump and the chamber. Always close it before shutting off the pump and always start the pump before opening the ball valve.

As far as saving the oil, yeah, you can, but it is a lot of work and unless it is a lot of BHO, or you just like to play in the lab, you might consider sticking it in the freezer and sponging off as much pump oil as you can once the BHO hardens.

Mineral oil is insoluble in water and ethanol, but is in Hexane, so while frozen, you might try a quick rinse with an HPLC grade of Hexane.

The residual Hexane boils at 68C/154F, so it is easier to get rid of with heat and vacuum.
