First Grow - Help Please

Hi Everyone,
Could anyone help me with identifying the problem/solution with my plants?

The pictures are attached (hope I did it right).

I'm growing with 300 W LEDs, 100% promix, dyna-gro pro-tekt and grow. My plants are 3 weeks old in veg from seeds (i.e., started seeds 18 July, potted them 4 August). I had a heat problem at one week veg and lost five. The temps now are pretty steady at 82 F and 40-50% humidity. I can't tell what the pH is because I don't have water runoff. I water just enough every two-three days or when the bottoms are super dry.

Thanks very much,
Ginger

First and formost make sure u r giving them a good dry cycle. Every two or three days is probably to much for them to handle right now. Try lettimg them wilt a little bdfore watering again and then u will know what dry really is. When I intially pot up under a 1000 watt it may take a week or more before I water again.

What happens is a moisture ball forms in the middle of the pot. U thinks its dry but its not. The roots stsrt to drown and all kinds of trouble begins. Most important thing for new growers is to learn what dry really is especially when u pot up.

Hi Bobman, thanks for response. So you're saying the problem is too much water? That's an easy fix. Fingering the soil and fluff it up and see if they're dry or wet all through. I feel like plant perv...

water when the pot is light to pick up, and they look like they could do with a foliar of epsom salts, beginning to show some mag def.

I am not saying thats the problem but when I saw u just potted up and u r watering every two or three days and u r under 300 watts I can see whats coming. Just let them wilt a little then pick up the pot then u will know what dry is. They will be light as a feather. U have done a good job with the perlite that helps a lot. The plants look good overall that could be from any number of things my guess would be the watering but it could have been the heat or something sprayed on them. And please dont foliar feed them anything that can just cause more problems.

Oh gosh, you know how zealous people can get - I spent two hours reading everything about epsom salts, drove my happy butt to the pharmacy, bought the 10 pound bag (as opposed to the 4 pound lavender crap), diluted 1/2 tsp in a gallon of boiling water, cooled it down with ice blocks and sprayed those suckers right before lights out.

Nothing changed this morning so maybe I will get lucky. Anyone want some epsom salts??? ha

I agree 100% with bobman let them have a dry period after you transplant. Remember your not going to see instant results with plants it takes time for them to recover. Just like bobman said don't do anything to them just let them dry out. When it comes time to water again make sure your getting some run off, also give them plain water at some point in your feeding schedule. I use to give them plain water every two feedings when I was in pro-mix.

Hi again Everyone. Thanks for your suggestions.
After I sprayed with the epsom salts water, they looked awful. The leaves turned colors, see pics.

I let them dry out until they were wilting. I watered one enough to get the runoff and the Ph was orange - so I used the pH Up till it measured dirt green like 6.5. I squeezed out all the excess water so it wouldn't be so heavy. I top dressed with about 1/8 teaspoon 5-5-5 frog general fertilizer.

It's been three days. This is what they look like - some are worse than this.

Any suggestions?

What's important is the new growth. The damaged leaves won't recover. Not surprising that the damaged leaves are getting worse.

And when you water, don't squeeze out excess water. You're causing root damage, and compacting the soil. Just water to get 20-25% runoff, and let them alone to dry out with time. When the pots are a lot lighter, water to runoff again. Good luck. -granger
