Just about to start a new grow and need some good electrical advice please.

The rooms a spare room with only 2 single uk standard sockets,in this room I want to run two tents.

Flower tent only:

Dr120

1k light

8" & 6" ruck fans.

Smscom twin controller

Vegging tent only:

Dr90

125 enviro 250 enviro 400watt hps (at various stages)

5" and 4" ruck fans.

Smscom single controller for exhaust only.

Help me use these safely please,do I need a relay contactor if Im switching lights on/off manually?

Any advice on how to run this setup would be very much appreciated, its costing me £1500.00 and I havn,t got a clue about electrics.

looking at what u propose your going to need 8-10 sockets ,,easy to change the 2 singles and add extra ,about £40 each if u get an electrician in ,,regarding the relay ,,get 1 and a timer and u wont need to manually control ..
learning basic electrics is a great help when growing ,,saves u loads :tiphat:

Don't switch your lights manually. A decent timer hooked to a contactor/relay will switch on/off bang on every 12 hours so you can go to the pub.

If you've spent 1500 quid already it's worth spending another 100 getting an electrician to put some more sockets in.

I believe I dont need a relay contactor if Im unplugging lights by hand, aint a relay contactor needed to stop timers breaking?

What sort of extension will I need,do you mean like a 5way one that plugs into my single socket and has another 5 sockets attached?

If so will these need to be heavey duty extension? Sorry but electrics aint my thing.

Ta for your reply.

Im actually housebound so turning the lights off really aint a problem,so I need more sockets, how much does an electrician charge per socket?

It was my thinking each socket is - 13amp so with two thats 26amps I think my 1k light will draw around 5amps,aint each socket able to give 3000watts?

Thanks for your input.

Sorry to hear that FTP. A timer and a contactor don't cost much and make things easy that's all. Sounds like you got it covered though.

I don't know what someone would charge for changing your sockets. It's only a coupla hours work at most. I think your right about 3000w per socket but I'd double check.

Maybe get yourself a coupla plug boards, you know, a lil extension lead with four socket on the end? Get ones with an on/off switch for each socket then you won't have to actually unplug anything to turn it off.

Thanks for your concerns buddy :) Been indoors for 11 years now,but heyho life goes on huh!

So you rekon my answer could be 2 small extension leads with 4 spare plugs coming off it,that would give me the 8 sockets I might need like mentioned above, that would be a better option if truth be told,I dont want anyone in if I can manage myself along with the help of you guys.

Any chance you could post a link or a picture of what extension cable I could do with buying? It will have to be something I can order online tho,If you or anyone else could help that would be splendid.

Thanks again all for your help and advice.

Harry your a star, would this be ok for a single socket with a 1k light plugged in pluss a sscom 4.5 controller with my two fans attached then? If so that would sort my flower tent out from the single socket,I,ll try and find one wich I can switch individually like you mentioned, staggering the switches one by one style so Im not firing it all up at once if you get my drift.

Blessings.

I dunno about the controlor. I guess if your under 3k per socket you're okay but you need someone who understands electrics better than me to chip in here...

You're probably gonna want to keep the extraction fans/ filter combo running 24/7 though to keep negative pressure in the tents and deal with the stink.

Yeah I understand my fans need to be running 24/7 Harry,Ive read so much of late my heads starting to frazzle! I just want to be safe rather than sorry! I also understand about negitive pressure in both tents, its just the bloody electrics that kinda freak me out but Im willing to learn..

Thanks for all your advice, its very much appreciated.

Now calling all Sparkys...please chip in if your reading this :)

hi found the plot, if ya gotta get a spark in make sure ya trust him, my mate got one in to install bigger breakers and two weeks into his grow he got raided, it couldn't possibly have been the smell so he reckons it was the spark who sold him, just be careful mate, goodluck.
