trimmer wages

What are wages looking like this fall for trimmers? With prices down are wages down too? Or will the trimmers just have to wait until it sells next year to get paid?
,
I use the 10% rule. When I was getting 2000 a unit, 200 to the trimmers was more than fair. Now that were seeing 1000-1500 per unit, trimmer wages has gone down as well. Can't pay someone 20% of the final take when I took all the risk and grew these bitches from seed.

I have a real job so my trimmers get paied after every 10 they do, or they can do the exchange rate and take product instead. However I know others who are still paying off their trim fees from last year, no one gets paied until the stuff is gone.

Wow, so why no machines? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through to trim by hand; would really be worth it if its a large extended family doing the growing and processing.

Machines beat the product senseless. Plus the material left after the trim, makes crappy hash, compared to hand trimmed. Peace GS

No, I abandon them a few years ago. Unless tech has changed completely, not sure how it could compare to hand trim for keeping heads intact. Sounds like a commercial thing. Peace GS

Oh ya I noticed you said it makes good iso, have YOU tried making hash with it? Would you have called it good quality? I prefer no solvents. Peace GS

GS don't judge a product unless you try it first. As I've indicated this particular trimmer does an excellent job and is gentle on the flowers. The trim isn't "mulch", I don't see why you couldn't dry it and tumble it. I would imagine that you further screen your kief, wouldn't that get the rest of the plant material out? To each there own I guess.

Just saying, it may be more gentle than others, but again I ask. Could you compare it to a hand trim for its gentleness? I love my personal untrimmed. I doubt anything anyone says will change that. Peace GS

green s,,have you tried "bonsais"?,,all the gentleness and accuracy of hand trimming with normal scissors but x3 as fast,,
i cutdown on sunday and of my two trimmers,,the trimmer using bonsais, did 3 plants for every 1 plant the other trimmer did using normal scissors,,
trics all stay where they are supposed to be and buds not chucked about everwhere,,,,,s2

I too am one who prefers hand trimming over machines, I have seen and used (as a hired trimmer) several of the trimming machines available but again I tend to agree with GS.

As with many things I understand if your show is large then the necessity to go 'industrial' is there.

I dig the old ways as it were, I tend to try to do everything by hand, from peeling logs, digging post holes, mixing concrete, to raising my horse/cow barn, tending my animals, it is all ChiliBu powered, for example..
..my obstacle course, (yes I have my own obstacle course with over 20 elements spread across 2.5 acres) was done 95% by hand, by me...with reclaimed items, over the course of 9 months.

To some it may be extreme but I harken back to a time when people survived on hard work, the efforts you put into your day reaped the rewards and you were self reliant.
The old timers out were I live are living examples of this mentality and many of them are my mentors on living a long healthy active life and getting by without all the bells and whistles.

Rant mode disengaged

A trimming fool and his fingers are soon parted, enjoy your day..eh!

I dragged my wife down while I was trimming to snap a pic.. This was one from my 5hour trimming session last night

picture.php

I use stringers for my larger buds, and a 4x4 screen for my popcorn which gets moved to bins once it gets crispy on the outside (2 days) then they finish drying over the next few days

Couple more hours and I will finally be done and my scissors can take a rest.

those are some nice looking donkey dicks, lol
got to love the bud hanging around, I bet the smell is intoxicating.
:woohoo:

btw, uhm not trying to be rude but...your skin looks a little dry, might I suggest a moisturizer

'it put's the lotion on it's skin or it gets the hose again'
:tumbleweed:

I've often wondered did Buffalo Bill mean that she would be hosed down again OR she would get beat with the hose again?

You see since Bill was all aboot the collection of dermis to make his 'outfit' you would think that he would have known that if he keep hosing the girl down that eventually her skin would get wrinkly (kind of like when you stayed in the bath too long)

That to me does not seem conducive to attaining the finest 'skins' to make said outfit and being that Bill was one who put a lot of time and thought into this you would think this would factor in.

A quandary I know.

Any way you look at it tho it still seems like your skin is a little dry and slightly discoloured.

LOL...

Yeah I try and keep the RH down in the finishing budroom....perhaps it is time for some Oil of Olay..

As for the smell....Think syrupy sweet with lemon and just a bare hint of something spicy. when your chopping....My wife's favorite for ME to trim...she can actually stick her head in the room while I am cutting without throwing up and getting a migraine..

Now my Sativa leaning hybrid...that starts giving her headaches around week 8 i'sh..and she leaves the house for a couple days during chop chop time..
Great meds for me....Bad for her :(

Black Domina to her smells like almost rotting coffee to her.....

In her opinion it all stinks like SHIT..lol

Usually people that can't trim a pound a day walk after the first paycheck. It's hard fucking work, I'm thinking about switching to machines next year to do my outdoor. Just one nice standup and my wife and I could handle most of our outdoor I'm pretty sure.

dont use machines! those big tumbling machines are terrible for your herb! you spray Pam on the roller brush that coats the rolling cylinder....in essense you pay a shit load of money, to cut the outside of every nug off and knock off the trichs, and ruin all your herb cause its now unsmokeable and u cant use the trim for medibles cause its coated in Pam..

no dispensary or patient in this state wants you to spend all that time growing the best meds you can, then to fuck it up at the very end. some members can get away with it cause they are doing bulk deals that people dont care about the quality they are about the amount. theres light dep comin thru right now thats been machine trimmed and you cant give the stuff away.

save the trim machines for the thoughtless growers that dont care about their patients health or well being.

Example = the colorado cheesecake lady has refused to use machine trimmed herb, all of her gluten intolerant patients became sick after eating meds that came from a trim machine because growers didnt tell her that it was machine trimmed with pam!

I know my buddy keeps telling me to switch to a salad bowl style at the least..

31 cranks....and she is done for a hard indica...I will say it cuts it nice if you want nothing larger than 1.5inches long and mostly popcorn..I have helped run through a few lights and it amazed me how fast you could fill the trays with popcorn....

Quick to rip through a plant...probably 1/4 of the time.....when you have 2 people working....1 person breakingdown, spinning, and rough tirmming, filling bins etc. and one guy ripping through the bud.

Here is my issue....You MISS a tiny bit of undesirable (mold) matter lets say....Heck a bit of dried fan leaf pressed against a cool wall can mold......Now lets say it was a begining piece....Now every bit of meds done AFTER that piece of moldy bud when in IMHO is CONTAMINATED.

A little powdery mildew perhaps....cobweb mold...BLEAH....NASTY.

By hand manicuring every piece I at least give each bud a good once over.

in the last 2 yrs I have had 2 instances of mold....

1 when a fly tagged a ride into my budroom, landed on a plant...got stuck in the resin...died....and turned into a little ball of mold...

2. In a growtent where a bud was leaning up against the wall in the back....

In both cases I did a HARD STOP....Pitch current trim, pitch contaminated bud, and change scissors...trim,bud and scissors all went in garbage....Clean trim bin, new scissors, start again.....

Hate to toss buds the size of beer bottle but it is better than letting QP in storage go bad during the cure....
