Warning for U.S. General 3cfm dual stage pump

This is a warning have had it happen to me, and 4 of my buddies who run this vac pump...

I compiled everyone's horror story and found correlating points we had done when it happened to us.
1. Everyone had run their pump for more than 1 hour
2. Everyone filled their lubricant oil either slightly past the max line or used the whole bottle.
3. Everyone had either kept their gauge set laying on a table, or took it down from hanging to prepare for decompression.

Seems Harbor Freights 3cfm dual stage vac pump made by U.S. General has a couple faulty parts that can cause us BHO fans some major woes. It seems that the seals inside are made of a type of wax paper that deteriorates during heavy use and when that happens it causes the unit to flood the gauges and spit the mineral oil that lubricates the pump out in to your dessication chamber and ruins the product... when it happened first to me I lost 10g of nug blown GSC shatter, one of my buddies lost 19g of alien grenades oil.

Is this happening when you turn your pump off or while it's running?

Do you have an inline shut off valve between your pump and your chamber? or just a ball valve on the chamber to release the negative pressure?

yeah, good old "Harbor Break". . . . good for nothing that is (except tools that will work for ONE job/project). .

[Robinair and YellowJacket are expensive, but both I have had very good long term results with]

If you had a valve in between the pump and chamber you wouldn't need to run your pump for an hour and you wouldn't get oil in your erl, no matter what happens in the pump.

let me just explain this as it happened to me
i have a supe tits vac n have been on vo status for almost 2 years now...so def a LIL ahead of the curve at least but still made this fopah

so I used to use timers on some of my gear in case having to dip out for a min (i mean on the vac ov etc....)

so the oil was in the vac w pump on....i set a timer on the pump and oven so they would turn off together...and im sure at the same time they both did...

now with no valve in between the pump and vac oven or chamber or whatever ur using to degas ur shit, once the pump turns off, the neg pressure thats built up in the oven has to pull something, thus it pulls the oil allllll the way through my super long line running from my pump tp chamber....

i come in in the am and am like wtf???? theres like a lil pool of lube in the corner of my oil...
gay...ruined that one...
when i lifted the vac line to look at it it was full of oil...pretty easy to figure out what happened...
neg pressure=reversal of flow=sucks oil out of pump...=ur oils fucksticked w a capital F

now my vac has the capacity to be closed off once the pressure is inside, (but most who runs pumps realize you dont pull as much gas out when its just trapped under pressure w heat, you actually need the vac to keep pulling, thus leaving it on) so just setting pressure to neg 29 n closing the valve doesnt work as well as leaving the pump running....

now im not sure, there may be some type of one way valve or something that will enable you to leave the pump on, have it turn off, and not have the oil sucked into the chamber...i dunno...

but i can almost certainly tell you it has nothing to do with the fact that your using a shit harbor freight pump...
i used that pump ad naseum w no vac oven just diff chambers n never ever had an issue until the reverse pressure prob happened...

moral of story- dont turn ur pump off without closing the valve if under neg pressure..
ur pump is fine

Most vacuum pumps seem to have an internal check valve, Harbor Freight's don't seem to...I use a ball valve between the chamber and pump, after closing the ball valve, I use the spare pump inlet to release the vacuum between the ball valve and pump, and then turn the pump off. Just my way of respecting the pump.

As for needing to leave the pump running, buy a Yellow Jacket 69075 like I have and see (micron wise) what's going on...

You own a vacuum oven and still made this mistake? I wouldn't say your ahead of the curve.....but behind it

ok, and in the same sentence i said ive had one for 2 years genius. when you get one last month?

and as YOU quoted i said a LIL ahead....ie i bought a vac oven way before most people did...that would technically mean i was literally ahead of the curve aka everyone else buying a vac oven on ebay

there did i break that down enough for you to soak in?? are you following me now? do i need to further explain myself in some more waste of time dialogue...
ohhh i get it ur still butt hurt you got rinsed out on the other "all wax is poison" subject thread from before...you remember the one where you falsely proclaimed like every other shatthead that all "wax" is in fact poison and "if it dont shatter it dont matter"

its ok dude, time heals all wwounds...and bruised egos too sometimes..youll get over it..

i got an idea!!!!! why dont you do something constructive instead of trying your dick off to make me look dumb.(cuz that sure as FUCK aint happenin, minus how dumb i look for even engaging you in this retarded convo)..lol

nice try tho!!

smh while slapping my forehead

oh really? why cuz i admitted to making a mistake? ...yea ok brosef...your right..please PLEASE teach me your wizard oil ways. school me sir....
(to admin, this is what makes forums retarded, people come on here for info and they gotta sort through millions of worthless personally directed posts like this)

nice job dude...keep turning the forum into a chinese gang fuck with your drivel. (golf clap)

apparently you missed that this was a thread directed at finding out what was up w getting oil in their oil, not trying to shit talk
