I'm back at it again with another "just for fun" grow. Hempy buckets have made my life so easy, I just can't keep myself from starting new ones! :D

Anyway, this is my newest garden to unveil:

It's a 5 gal hempy, pure perlite, with a single Sadhu clone that has been vegging under a single 42w CFL for about a month now I guess. I just upgraded the lighting to 4 x 23w and it covers the scrog screen pretty well. The screen is just a PVC frame with jute twine and aluminum tape. It'll do the trick.

The space is about 19" x 17" and exists in the same cabinet that my 125w micro vert lives in. I still need to put reflectix in here, but that will come soon. This will be a very simple grow, just for extra smoke, and to see how Sadhu does in a scrog.

Here's a pic of the undergrowth. Not bad for 42w:

For the drainage hole, I've inserted a grommet and an elbow, with a piece of tubing attached to it. Now, I can water the container, and when it fills up, I just carry it to the bathtub, twist the elbow to point it downward, and let it drain out. Easy breezy:

Where do you find the time Hush?! hehe

I like the 4 bulb setup... is that using 3 of those Y-splitters?

Haha! Yeah I get bored easy, ha. But that is the beauty of the hempy bucket... They don't require much time at all other than the initial setup and the occasional mixing of large batch of nutes.

I like the idea of having multiple small gardens going at any given time. If anything happens to my big garden at least I'll have a few small ones to supplement with. I'm really experimenting these days with getting the most for the least, if you know what I mean. That way one day I can meet my needs with the least amount of work and electricity required.

Yes, I just put 3 of those y-splitters together. ;)

I have never tried a hempy, but they do look pretty cool.

I am with you on the small gardens and efficiency thing mate - inspired by your CFL microvert; my veg area is now just a small box lit by a single 42w CFL hung vertically in the centre. A single pc fan extracts the air at the top. I have been astounded by just how well plants do in there, with such a small amount of light. The box can't hold many plants - especially as they become bigger, but it can just about take care of my current veg needs (2xreveg,2xmother,5xclone). And I gotta say I do get a massive kick out of knowing that it all runs off less than 50w. I would not attempt to flower in that box tho ;)

:lurk:

did i mention i love micro?
did i mention i love scrog?
did i mention i am falling in love with hempy buckets?

mind if i seat next to 5th?

have you considered an autofeeding system to cut on maintenance workload even more? a simple cheap waterpump and some easy cheesy tubing would make do!

Haha, thanks guys! Please, pull up a seat! :D

I'm about to go take care of this cabinet in a minute, so I'll have pictures shortly... but I think the growth with these bulbs has been a bit too slow. I'm sure that has a lot to do with a lack of reflection from above, and a lack of reflective walls, but still, I think my space is just slightly too big for 23w bulbs. So, I'm going to upgrade to 4 x 42w bulbs when I flip them to flowering.

And yes, NKOTS, I do plan on automating the watering/feeding. I'm just going to scale down the setup I have in my large tent. I don't know if I want to use a pump, or just fashion some kind of gravity feed setup with a valve I can easily open and close.

I really do love hempies!

nice dude, I am planning a Scrog in my veg cab after I start my final flower cycle...

Trying to read up on the scrogs...

did you do any training at all? or just let them grow into the screen?

Thanks! I started by planting the rooted clone into the perlite at an angle. Then when the lower branches came up I pinned them down with my LST stakes. Then when there were like 4 good branches on each one I let them grow up to the screen. As they pop up through the screen I pull them back down again and spread things out a little bit. Nothing too intensive.

Great cab grow, two questions:

1. Have the roots grown horizontal to fill the shallower, square container?
2. Does most/all of the water run straight to the bottom of the container in the hempy setup? If so, are you getting runoff everytime?

Still monkeying with different setups, and you have some similarities to my original cab. Thanks!
