Treat only a branch with STS to get a few male flowers?

Hi everyone,

Just a bit of background first: This year, I restarted growing in my garden only for the fun of it. I bought a few single seeds per strain hoping to cover the whole spectrum of what I might have consumed back in my "wild days".
Unfortunately, I had no clue that nowadays there are dozen sites for nearly every strain and so I maybe decided to go with the "wrong" supplyer caus he had mainly feminized seeds. I also ordered a few regular ones but they gave either only females (man, I feel stupide to be sad about that) or the male was so weak that it died short before flowering... And now I'm stuck with a male DP Passion #1, but no female. I just wanted to see a female of a pure indica

but I never enjoyed their stone and certainly are not going to cross that stuff. It looks btw too lanky and smell is flat and dull.

Now, I'd like to treat something with silver thiosulfate to get at least a few seeds for next year. I have females of 7 strains but only the DP Purple #1 and the DP Skunk #1 twice. The Purple (I like purple as a colour and it looks alot like the stuff I had growing as a teen) are well into flowering but so small, unbranched, ugly, and completely odourless and the stinky smell of the Skunks repels me already (had forgotten that when ordering) that I'm not going to use one of these for polination... On the other hand, I'm not willing to sacrifice one of the others as my grow is about seeing the full grown female plants (males aren't that gorgeous to look at, not to speak about sex-inversed ones). Today, I took a cut of the DP Cali O (well, I accidentaly broke of a branche) and try to root it (without rooting hormon), treat it with STS, pollinate my females and then harvest immature seeds because the season will be over by then...
With my luck so far I neither count on the DP Blueberry to hermie... (Well, I don't complain: all 14 seeds germinated within a day, one a "trifoliated twin", the aforementioned crippled male, and two others didn't made it thanks to slugs. The others grow great in spite of the late planting.)

Bottom line is, someone needs your help :) !

Can I only treat a single branch (preferably from the Dinafem Strawberry Cough and Super Silver) with STS to get a few male flowers on them?
Theoretically, the silver should remain in the treated area and inhibit only locally the effects of ethylene. Judging by its properties, I expect ethylene to diffuse only short distances bevore it gets lost into the atmosphere and so it seems feasible to me, but I'm really not sure (what comes downstream of ehtylene anyway?). I don't wan't to treat a single branch and then get the whole plant to craze out becoming who knows what...

Appreciate any help, suggestion or whatever!

By experiment , everything done so far to one branch has had no effect beyond that branch , GA3 and colloidal silver.

If one stem is in 12/12 it will flower indelendently of the rest of the plant and roots in 20/4 veg , and vice versa.

Would expect thio to be the same , would self only the very best and be prepared to grow a decent number out , bit of a lottery with any genetics but worth a shot.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds promising then :woohoo: .

You see, for me it isn't about finding the "best" cause I seek only nice looking plants with a pleasant smell and (apart from the Purple #1) they all look healthy, nice, and lovely (especially the Super Silver with its double serrated leafe tips). Maybe I can't resist testing what's growing and likely I'm going to use the lower leafs to aromatise black tea (that smells great and helps me better agains minor illnesses than paracetamol) or fragrant bags but apart from that I'll going to compost quite a few buds I think :hide: .
If I get the plants to produce male flowers on a few branches, chances are that this experiment will go pretty well for me even if next years grow will look miserable to you :) .
