I know this is going to sound silly... in fact, I want to laugh at myself whenever I think it... but the truth is, this is a question that keeps rolling around my head, so I'm going to ask it:

Does anyone think my plants are too bushy?

In other words, did I LST too much or anything like that? Because, I don't know, when I look at the canopy, as beautiful as it is, it looks like a sea of green instead of 5 bushes. Know what I mean? So, that makes me wonder, is it only going to be the top buds that get all the light? If so, am I going to have to do staggered harvests? Do I have to worry about mildew down in the middle or bottom of the bushes?

Okay, I guess that was several questions, lol. I've just never had such a dense bush like this before!

Dunno, hush. It's not my style of growing. At worst, it'll be like a scrog or sog with top buds galore.

I'm sure you're paying attention, so you'll just have to deal with lower branch issues should any occur. One thing's for sure- light penetration from the 1000W is as good as it gets.

Def looking good!

Thanks man. I got down under there tonight to take some pictures. It's not that bad after all, I guess. I'm going to keep my eyes on things, but I'll just probably pick out dead leaves from time to time, and that's it. Maybe a few puny branches here and there.

To get an idea of the stretch, this is what has happened in the first 14 days of 12/12. They went from this:

I dont think they are too bushy at all. Matter of fact...once you trim off the bottom 1/2 of each branch, the plants will reward you with meaty buds and no flarf.Heres what my canopy looks like as of around a week ago ~

Heres a Cheesedog that I topped a bunch of times. It still needs to get all the bottoms trimmed off so the plant focuses all its energy into the main tops~

I do know what you mean about too bushy.
Just trim the long, skinny, side branches off the main branches, at the bottoms of each branch, and only keep whats gonna produce big, thick buds. Around 7-8 internodes from the top at the beggining of flower.

Im not trying to invade your thread Hush, so I hope you dont mind me posting pics for you to see. I use 600's. Ive never used 1000's, so I dont know if the same rules apply with a stronger intensity lamp, as far as canopy penetration is concerned.
I would think its the same, unless your bending and training.
I hope this helps with your question about bushy plants. Bushy is better if you trim the bottoms right.

I don't mind at all, thank you for demonstrating! I am really excited to do it on my own plants now. I think I will do it tonight, which will be day 16 for the plants. Wow, I can really see the difference, and it makes sense that this would increase the plants ability to make solid cola branches instead of fluffy popcorn.

Thanks, Alone, I really appreciate it!

I'm disinclined to learn the math, but the 1000w should give better penetration, if not by a helluva lot. Fans should really help, keeping the foliage moving so that light gets past the upper leaves in a more even fashion.

There is no such thing as too bushy, only too lazy to clip all that extra growth. That's usually my problem.

Looking good. Don't be afraid to chop off that lower crap. Use the force.

Okay, well I just finished up! The lower growth has been removed. Here is what it looks like now:

I trimmed off about half of what was on each branch, and some entire, puny branches were removed.

And yet, it's still bushy! :D

Very nice Hush! Your girls will reward you with much thicker, fuller top colas.
Great job at asking, listening, and taking action. I appreciate you trusting my knowledge and experience in your garden brother. Looks great!
Anything like this I cut off and throw away ~

You have a perfect canopy Hush. I like how you LST'd them girls. Think you got around 12 tops per plant?
Thats a great way to fill the space.

I usually never topped my girls so much because I usually grow from clones.
This run was from all seed to find the best phenos from each strain. I topped them a few times and have 10 tops per plant on 98% of them. 2 or 3 Grandoggy Purps were on the taller side so I topped them a couple times more than the others.
Running these from seed, having all dif phenos, and 6 strains, Im surprised at how even my canopy is.
Im sure Im gonna have to prop up some heavy colas with some bamboo garden stakes.

Wow well done man - I have always been a bit scared about pruning lower growth. I like how you just got straight into it :)

No, thank you for sharing your knowledge with me brother. I've never been too proud to ask for help and follow the advice of people with more experience than me. I'm always very thankful when I encounter people such as yourself who offer up the help, so thank you.

Actually, yes. I think they average 12 good tops each, with the one directly in the middle having I think 16. I just did the math, and if every one of these tops ends up weighing a piddly quarter ounce each, that would add up to 17 ounces, which is over a pound. That's the minimum I will be happy with. But I'm fairly certain that some of these tops will end up weighing more than 7 grams, so I'm starting to realize that my goal of 20 ounces is actually a reasonable one! :D

Thanks man. That's how I do! :D

Yeah, I have to admit I was very scared at first. The very first plant I trimmed took about an hour and a half, because I was so unsure about how much to take off, and I was sure I was cutting off what eventually would become massive nugs, lol. But then reality kicks in after the first few cuts, and you start realizing how it's only making the plant stronger, getting rid of all those flimsy, floppy branches that never would've amounted to anything.

Then, when it was all finished, I couldn't help but notice how the canopy looked almost exactly the same as before, which made me very happy. :D
