Herman you should get out and run with Frau Herman sometime :)

Yes, you´re right, could be that such times are coming? Got the feeling, I´m standing before a change in my lifetime. Have to live healthier. Damned there is only one lifetime and I act like it is only a final rehearsal.

(I think maybe 3 old ladys are named so, but the female Herman is called Hermine)

JericoMile, Thanks for the input ! i guess we all have are different
opions, maybe beacause of the different type of running we do ?

i am a long distance runner, and to be honest it seems the fastest marathon runners
are the collage track, cross country peeps maybe you  i have been running for 15+ years and have never
had a injury form running...

Q jerico what distance do you typically run ?

i just can not belive that any one can run anything over a mile,
running forefoot ball of the feet with minamel shoes and not get
injured sooner or later, i want to be able to at least walk when
i get old !

i totally disagree with you're shoe analogy, maybe if you buy cheap shoes and pick them out you're self, ok
i will let a professional help me make
my choice every time ! i luv supporting my local run shop where
the real professionals are, not online or at you're local sporting
good shop, that is a sure fire way to bullshit !

I'm 47 yrs old...most my runs are 10 miles +....but never more than 20 (because I don't run with water..or stage shit..20 is the stopper).

I run in the mountains....san diego and imperial counties...high desert..cleveland n.f., PCT......run roads only to make trail connections...but that can go for miles...jeep trails..fire breaks..off trail runs into the desert.......hills hills hills...that's all I have....a trail running mecca

I don't run races...don't join clubs...just run. I train for my own spiritual reasons. I train....because that's what I do. I enjoy the suffering...enjoy the endorphins..enjoy the states of NOW. Running mountains...is like yoga...it's a game of stretch, balance, endurance, tenacity, dedication, conditioning, strength, and heart. It's a sweat lodge...cleansing...purging of society's additives. The only time I feel truly free..lol...true that

Run how you want dude...run in what you want...but it doesn't hurt to look at the other side of things

I live the life style....my diet and my gardening...all revolve around trail running. I am a disciple to the discipline

* If I can run in form...from the core...on flexible/open hips...don't take any serious falls...I'll run the rest of my life. I have not hit my peak yet...I'm still making major gains...the plateaus...not as long

That's part of the reason I was interested in a running thread, to get input from people with different philosophies and styles, etc. I think we'll all agree it it's good for our bodies and our souls. I know since I began running with minimalist shoes and shifting my form\impact forward, I've noticed it feels more natural. I realize it's only anecdotal, but the two oldest runners I know were running this way 15 years ago. Both have hung up their shoes recently, but not until they reached 73 and 74 years old. I hope I can run for that long or longer. I'll be fifty next year fwiw.

I did slip on form recently and it was causing me some pain in my knees. Basically I was striking too far forward on the ball of my foot. I slowed down and concentrated on form, striking farther back, like on the rear of the ball of my foot, and it makes a huge difference for me. It's very fluid then and causes no unusual or abnormal pain afterward.

Had my best run in a couple of weeks yesterday, on a trail in a thunderstorm. Beau coup hail but deciduous canopy kept most of it off. It's been hot and humid as hell so the cool rain was a nice respite. Nice area to run, nobody here runs, always alone. Nice to get nekkid at the end and jump in the creek for a cool down.

I'm considering getting an hydration belt because I did a 14 or 15 mile a couple of weeks ago and bonked hard. Not sure if I want that weight on the waist. I thought I was well hydrated and had plenty to drink at the end, but I was screwed for a few days after that. Also thinking about just stashing some water jugs on that trail instead.

The Tale of the Tread

The Tale of the Tread

Here's a look at the bottoms of my Altra Lone Peak 1.5

^ I'm keeping a general tracking of the miles they have on them. Right around 170 miles on them. You can see the wearing around the balls of my feet...but hardly any wear at all in the back part of the soles. That extended piece of tread at the back of the sole...is a braking mechanism.

Originally I thought the "brake" a gimmick...but no...on steep downhills you can lean back and use it...to smoothly drag over boulders....actually works..as you can slide off the back of your foot. However...you couldn't run heel to toe in these shoes..without cutting that thing off.

No shoes last....at least where I run...and I'd say...these soles have another 100 miles in them..but not much more. Already having to compensate for loss of traction...slipperier than they were...all those knobs have been worn or ripped away around the balls of my feet. Toe grab is still there though...and as I use my toes to grip rocks..they are still good enough to go. Once the toe tread wears down..I'll be getting another pair.

** Uppers are great...tough shoes..no tears..no holes

Right on, I've been looking at the old model on Running Warehouse, liquidation. Reviews say the width is generous, but it only comes in a D width, looks like. In most New Balance I go with a 2E, but I'm thinking about giving these a go. Can always send them back I guess.

These have a lot more tread than the NB 730 I'm using, I like the look of the sole. 300 miles +\- is decent, especially at sale prices. Thanks man.

Run naked

Run naked

Did a 12 mile trail run Friday evening, the last 6 miles in nothing but a pair of shoes. Near dark at the end and inclement weather, nobody runs these trails anyway.

Highly recommended  and look forward to doing it again and often :tiphat:
