Black Betty

I just picked up a cut of this classic and was wondering if anyone has grown it out? What are the parents of this strain? A Google search didn't get me anywhere.

Had it outside last year. AK47 X ? (can't remember). Finished flowers were very sour smelling and loose, maybe sour D or kin is the other parent. It yields very well. The bud structure wasn't to my liking, but it's exceptional mold resistance was probably a result of the loose structure. Finishes Oct. 20th-25th in N hemisphere so I'd say at least 9-10 weeks inside. Above average potency. Worth a go...

Interesting. Was this seeds or clone-only?

Clone only, passed around Oregon. Forgot to mention the bugs really like her, mites, corn borers, etc.

Yep, that's the one. She sounds like a weirdo. Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to throw her in early, before the 8-weekers. :tiphat:

I bet she'll do well inside. The source said sativa dominant. Maybe shown in the flowering time, but there was an indica structure with not much stretch to her. You'll probably be able to get tighter flowers inside.

I ran one of these in a light dep last year. Ak47 X Sour D is what I was told and I have no trouble believing it. A friend does well with the Betty indoors. He said 60 days to finish in his setup and he doesn't usually exaggerate.

I had Similar experience to Cep. AK dominant structure, maybe slightly less bushy. Not much stretch. Pests loved her, just like they love the AK. Nice big buds but not super dense. Some cherry aroma with a little sour undertone. Decent stuff but didn't really blow me away in any category. Would rather run a good AK or Sour D instead. Might be one of those that really needs to be ran indoors to fully appreciate.

I kind of jumped when I saw this thread man, thought no one else would have this obscure heirloom.. I'm not currently running Black Betty BUT I have self seeds from her; she was given to my mentor by someone who got it from a family member in Louisiana where it's apparently from, and it's lineage is AK47 X Querkle.. it was dense medium yield, had an aroma of fruity loops cereal, with the same taste that kind of finishes with a sweet hay/cane sugar like flavor masked with a very mild diesel tone; if there's ever a strain for fruity loops this is it but I didn't like how stressed it got. Patients loved her mellow heady lift and A+++ bag appeal, would be pitch black if done outdoors as was nearly so indoors without climate change.
The only reason it stuck around so long is how much people love love LOVED it. Great sativa dom high that flowers out with the stony girls just fine without lowering light times or other finicky sativa shit to improve production.

I would love to hear any information anyone else has or grow reports of the betty!! This is tempting me to crack into the betty seeds

I'm not sure what you mean by that. As in lowering light schedule below 12 hours?

I suspect there are a few clones around here being called black betty because mine was light green all the way through until late October. Makes me think the lineage is SourDxAK. Probably just two clones.

well I don't want to send people elsewhere or circumvent the filter but I had no trouble finding info by googling "black betty strain".

from what you and what mullet just posted above I think there's definitely a different lineage going around.. our betty was solid darkness

And sativas get boosted production when given 10/14 light near the last 2 weeks of flowering, people have separately dialed environments for them; though some sativa dominant strains will express as an indica while growing, like albert walker staying stout, and green crack finishing faster - but most importantly not needing 10/14 for boosted production

:tiphat: Thanks for all the great info, guys. I'll be running her in September, so I'll post some pics since she's a bit rare. She's about 9" tall in veg right now, and covered with resin. A good sign.

Yes I know. The black betty is a very special east coast sour diesel cut Crossed to a cherry ak-47 Male. She takes about 65 max to finish. Keep your temps nice, responds well with LST. She should have that Mouthwatering Dank sour cherry candy smell. 1st hit taste so good, I just got to take a 2nd. Then betty gets me good. Any more questions. I think I still have the seed lot number from serious seed from where the farther came from. Not that madders. Just was luck that it turned out to be the cherry pheno. Dumb luck wins again!

I've heard that cherry pheno's are very hard to find in the AK line, like 1/100 hard. Maybe I'm off on that.

Yeah I read that its more like 1 out of 10 are cherry on the ak-47. But everything on the net is true! lol! Just with a male. You basicly cross her out to find out. I got some more refined version of the black betty some F-3 I did, called big black and an F-4 that professor H did. The F-4 is out standing. Yeah Its good out doors, but way better indoors. Ill haveseed packs at the astoria store if anyone is interested or close by. I should get them their today.

Sounds like a great cross, anyone have any pics?

Will these be available through any place that does mail order?

Keep up the good work guys.

Wouldnt the statement that pests really like this cut be due to a mineral imbalance?

We all know that unhealthy plants call in pests like a blowing a horn for chow time. Maybe this could also be the reason for mediocre performance.

Just saying. I have this cut but have yet to flower her.

Just doing some research on my genetic library and evaluating possibilities for future breeding projects.

Respect,
