As the title suggests. How many of you have mushrooms growing in your containers?

I get them when ever I use a nice mushroom compost in the mix.

Just remember most mushroom compost is the byproduct of mushroom cultivation and if non organic will be loaded with stuff we don't want. I'm not sure how much fruiting fungi indicate a good host of beneficial fungi, but I've certainly noticed way more this wet year than previous ones. More hoptoads too.

It's been real wet this year. I have some mushies in my outdoor containers. The plants don't seem to mind at all.

Mine are growing in my indoor pots. I use blumats so I always keep my soil moist to promote a strong living top soil I suppose. This is first time in years I've seen mushrooms in my indoor containers.

They've been all over this year outdoors. Especially around my soaker hoses, but that's to be expected.

If I saw mushrooms, I would think my soil is staying way too wet.

Ya the pots that get them are the pots with touchy blumats but the plants sometimes tend to do better than the plants with a more balanced amount of water.

When using blumats, the top soil does dry out unlike conventional hand watering with the every 2-3 day soaking. But in order to maintain a moist top soil with blumats I noticed you gotta turn the sensor up, other wise only the center soil mass stays moist.

None the less, blumats are damn awesome. I could not have my garden with out them. They are like the silent partner you can always trust. ;) I have been relying on them since the start of 2012 and could never go back. They turn an already water only dank organic soil into a set it and forget it system practically.

mushroom fruiting bodies are a good sign in your soil, you need fungal hyphae to cycle nutrients efficiently. those fruiting bodies are A) and indication you HAVE fungal hyphae and B) the mushrooms reseeding, or sporing or whatever, re-planting itself back into your container.

When I go in my flower room at lights out with a flash light, I also see centipedes surface to the top kinda like worms do at night.

That is also new

hi Benny,

yea man, centipedes are predators. they will prey on just about any soft-body in the soil. from fungus gnat and thrip larvae to earthworms, small enough for them to eat.

I find them a good sign, arthropods are at the hierarchy of my soil food web. think: a true blue "trickle down theory".

Its pretty amazing seeing all the activity this time around in the soil. Im pretty sure I know what did it too. With my most recent blend being at the start of summer, I bought all my base soils but instead of mixing it right away, I let them sit out side for about 2 months. In that time the base soils seemed too have taken on a whole lot of life.
