Well cubic feet doesn't matter.
You are worried about square feet. The light shines a certain distance to the canopy .That distance affects your light availability , i.e. closer=more lumens(because it spreads out, and the light is less "concentrated").
So, anyway... your light shines 12" down to the canopy and puts out 18000 lumens/(1.1 x 2.1)= 7700 lux
Or, more likely it shines closer to 6" from the canopy, this allows less spread and your lumens go up to 72000 lumens/(1.1 x 2.1) = 36000lux.
With a scrog, we are only worried about the canopy, but with a regular grow, the cubic ft becomes more important, because you need high lumens further away. For instance, 2 ft away from your lght, you are down to 4500 lumens/(1.1 x 2.1) =1900 lux.
Google the inverse square law calculator, to help understand what I am saying.

Funny you should ask... A friend just gifted me a dozen beans. She swears she doesn't know the strain but says it's a 100% true winner. She herself is not a grower, and won't let off where she got them. We've known each other for 30+ years and she would never give me bag seed, so I haven't a clue. Now normally I'd never waste my time on unknown genetics but she has an excellent pallete and knows quality.

So now I'm faced with the decision of what to do with them. Way to late to try to start them in the ground this season. Even if they were short-cycle genetics there just wouldn't be enough warm weather time left. And, over the years I've learned to only do hydro with genetics you are very comfortable with in order to do them justice. I'd rather not store them another year for a longer growing season, besides I don't even have a clue if they were geared for outdoor growing.

So here's what I'm thinking..... I'll start them in soil-based mid-size containers on my deck for now. Then I'll have to keep a close eye on them to be sure the shortening days or cooler evenings that are ahead aren't playing havoc with them. Once I see any evidence of change I'll just move the containers into my grow box and put them in place of a few of the hydro tubs. However, when that time comes, if I see any evidence of insect damage or presence, I'll try to just take a few clean clones, neem them, and dump the rest of the plants.

Well, at least that's my plan for now.

That's a great plan! insects are more than likely to come inside with them! Neem is a great idea! I would apply neem and silica from the get go... or better yet have it in your soil mix... what kind of soil are you putting them in?

I was just wondering what everyone considers the best 150 watt hps bulb? Thanks for this awesome club.
I don't think you will find a large difference between the brands of 150w. I go for the cheapest ones I can find and have never had any issues :) GL!

I have a friend that bought some on 1000lightbulbs.com. I've looked on there and the prices are good. You also get to look at reviews of different brands of bulbs. I got some cheap premium brand at a clearance store for 6 bucks a piece and they work fine FYI.

Yep, cheap and change often is the way to go for sure. I grab anything & everything I can find at clearance sales, rummage sales and flea markets for under $5, then I change them every 3 grow cycles. After 7 or 8 months of use they loose a fair amount of their output, and with a 150 every lumen is precious.

All I have to say is I bought a "all-in-one" unit from VMinnovations on Ebay. Brand was C.A.P Valuline I believe... that thing didn't even last 6 months... don't know if it was the brand or the distributor selling faulty products and also it was shipped in it's own box! WTF! Straight up says HPS grow light on it...

DO NOT ORDER FROM VMinnovations on ebay...!

Now I have a Ultra Sun 150w for $20 on amazon and a Galaxy 150w Digital Ballast for $69.99+shipping off PLH.

I just checked though and they don't carry the 150w ballast anymore on PLH...

You can keep the autos small by "stunting" them. Keep them in a small-ish (like a 16 oz solo cup) till you start to see preflowers. Then to something bigger, like a #1.
That'll give you a plant that should end up around a foot tall. But you won't yield as much from the "dwarfed" plants, due to the smaller stature
Don't wait too long, or you can shock them and seriously reduce yield. I've seen many a autoflower grown by my friends, they are prissy.

Gee, this is the quietest this thread has been since I started it almost eight years ago! I know you guys are still out there doing your thing with the "Old 150" so why not throw up a pic or two of what you have cooking. Or maybe its the quickly approaching cooler weather and everyone is out in the fields getting ready for their huge outdoor fall harvests. What's an old timer to do for a bit of entertainment, I ask you?

Hope all are well and enjoying life.

L'Shannah Tovah (Happy New Year) to all our club members and friends that observe at this time of year.

One Love & Regards to All, PD

**I still have some way to go to tune this setup, make it lightproof etc., but... still lovin' and rockin' the 150! just dropped by to show some love in this wonderful thread! :)

Nice clean looking set-up, just the way I like them myself. I had the exact same light/air leak between the doors. I solved it with a strip of self-stick window insulation foam tape. You often see it in Dollar Stores, or you can grab a big roll for just a couple of bucks at any home center. The only down side is that you have to close and open both doors at the same time or it can pull off the tape.
