Buds 400W Multi-Strain Soil Grow

So I changed the res in my hydro plant and 3 days later the leaves all started to curl up. After looking through the forums it seemed to be linked with a mag deficiency. At first I thought it was heat related but the temp seems to be a steady 82 degrees so this isn't that hot.

I bought some Cal-Mag last night and added some to the res. Hopefully she will be happy again soon. This is my first time flowering in hydro so I don't have this setup dialed in yet. During veg I have had no problems using the fox farms trio of nutrients but it seems the plant needs more during flower.

So now I'm using Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, Hi-Brix, and Cal-Mag. Are there any other nutrients I would need to finish this hydro plants flower cycle?

Day 67 of Flower

The girls are all grown up now. I got some pictures to share from day 67 of flower of them. They have been getting plain tap water for the past two weeks now and the light got turned off this morning to start giving them 48-72 hours of darkness before the chop.

Here are some pictures of my Hydro test grow. After adding the Cal-Mag to the res, she seems to be happier. I still have some deficiencies but for my first time I think this is going well.

One thing I have learned is that for a plant this size you really need to have a much larger reservoir than 3 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket. I'm adding at least a gallon of water a day to the res because she is just so damn big and thirsty.

hey bro that big one looks nice but looks like it could use some more time to finish up and flush out some nutes... what did you feed that one? was that hydro as well? I don't know much about hydro, always grown soil besides one hempy cup with maxibloom but that was simple shit, you are running multiple nutes and from different brands it looks like this is when ph gets out of wack and who knows what makes up the EC level, if you even have a meter.

not hating just saying hydro can go bad very quickly if you are not experienced and have the proper tools. I would flush that big one out some more until the leaves don't look as green...

overall looks nice tho man! that is a big ass nug, I just don't want it to be a harsh smoke for ya! Peace! :joint:

Thanks for the input Soursmoker, I know your not hating on me.

The full tent is all soil with fox farms trio nutrients, I honestly don't check PH or EC on the soil plants since I have never had much issues with them. I have well water and I usually let it sit out for a day or two before using it on the plants. I need to cut this weekend due to my schedule and the trichs are all cloudy with just a few amber which is the way I like it.

I only have the one hydro plant in the 5 gallon bucket, I do check PH on this one. It is in different cab than the soil plants and is only 3 weeks into flower.

Ok makes sense, really I was just judging by the fan leaves still look pretty healthy and green, some will say that's good but IMO you want the plant to atleast start to look like it is fading, although harvesting due to schedule is very understandable.

you should look into water only organic soil mixes. check in the organic soil sub forum, read some of the stickies.

nice grow man
well water doesn't contain any chlorine so you don't have to let it sit for 24 hours
what do you do for ventilation ?
Is CriticalJack frm Delicious ?

Soursmoker, I generally would want the fan leaves to all start fading yellow but I just do not have the time this grow. I will look into some organic soil mixes. I have a friend who does only organic but currently he keeps telling my that my plants come out way better than his. Maybe he is just not the right person to get pointers from lol. I will check the organic forums to see if anything peaks interest.

OKD, thanks for stopping by! I will have harvest pictures up early next week.

Yesca73, thanks for the compliment. I have always liked to let my water sit for a day or two since it seems lower the ph a little and gets the water to room temp. For ventilation I have small fans inside the tent and cab that move air around and I have a 265 CFM fan that exhausts both of my light hoods. The output of the 265 CFM fan goes directly to a window fan and out of my house. The small fans are always on but the 265 CFM is only on when the lights are on since it is mostly to remove heat but it also removes the smell.

The Critical Jack is from DinaFem. It ended up going hermie and having a lot of balls in the under growth but I kept an eye on it and picked off most of the balls, it doesn't appear to have pollinated any of the large buds on top.

Here is picture labeling the strains. There is a small Double Berry plant in the middle but she only has a few grams on her and isn't worth trying to show.

Upgraded Hydro Res

Upgraded Hydro Res

So I finally got sick of this Hydro plant needing about 1 gallon of water added to the res every day so I upgraded the res on Friday. The plant was in a 5 gallon bucket with about 3 gallons of water. Due to the setup of this system I had to keep the plant in a 5 gallon bucket so I was limited to my options for upgrading. Luckily I had some spare components laying around and this upgraded didn't cost me a dime.

Here is a picture of the old res.

I took a 17 gallon heavy duty tote I had for another hydro system and cut a hole through the lid so a 5 gallon bucket could fit in it. I cut the bottom off a 5 gallon bucket and drilled a bunch of holes to allow water to fill the bottom of the bucket

The little black thing at the bottom of the root ball is the water pump. It was buried in roots.

Harvested on 8/3/2013

Here are my harvest pictures from this weekend. I only took pictures after the cut but all of the plants basically fell over once they came out of the tent, the buds were very heavy.

More harvest pictures!

Here are the final pictures from my harvest. I got a new drying net and damn this thing is so easy to use and fits in my tent perfectly.

I didn't weigh any of this but it looks like I got around 2 ounces per plant so I'm not worried. Next time I will train them a lot more and most likely ScroG them also. Thanks for watching! :tiphat:

O

OKD

Yeeeeoowww great harvest! Nice job expanding your hydro reservoir on the fly, too!

Thanks for the kind words OKD.

The buds have dried in the net and are now in paper bags for a few days. After drying it looks like I only got around 6 ounces total. This is less than what I hoped for but next time I will plan better and train the plants better for more bud sites.

Once the buds go into jars in a day or two, I will clean out the tent and move my vegging plants in there and start training them. I want to give them about 4 weeks of veg before switching to 12/12 so I should have another harvest around December. In the mean time I will be working on the hydro plant which is almost 4 weeks into flower now. Wish me luck!

Yeah, real nice harvest! :good:

Let me ask you, how do you like drying in those hanging nets? I've considered them before, but I wasn't sure if they are only good for popcorn nugs, or if they are good for whole branches and cola buds, too?
