Finally got the go ahead to get back to business and I plan on using a small closet in the bedroom to grow in. Its a 39"x21" space and I was wondering should I do 3 plants in 2 gallon buckets or 5 or 6 smaller plants in 1 gallon containers. Got a couple of cab grows under my belt but never done a area quite this small so this we be a learning experience. Any advice and input is always appreciated IC!!!

I say as many big pots as you can fit, then scrog. Bigger pots always turn out healthier plants with less effort.

I'm doing 2 small grows now, 1 in a closet 1 in an old freezer. You can see them here: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=262943

I'm also running 2 gal buckets and 4 qrt yogurt containers. The 2 gal. filled the closet & the qrt containers did the same to the freezer.

All are doing well but I think it's too crowded for them to really fill out to their full potential under these conditions.

Eliminate everything except VITAL equipment. Spend a large part of your budget/planning on air circulation/ vent/ductwork. Do it right, keep it clean, use quality materials.

Any equipment that can be outside the room should be. I know this isn't always possible but exhaust fans take up valuable headroom and ballasts generate heat. Not difficult to disguise or hide a fan or ballast either.

Keep it clean.

Allow for room for movement if at all possible. That big plant in the back corner is always the one that develops issues late in flowering ;)

How much headroom do you have?

I grow in a 36" x 18" cabinet vert. Take a look, the pots are almost a gallon each. Link I'm my sig.

If I had less than 10 or 15 plants I would just handwater. Much simpler, cuts your initial overhead by a lot.

You could try using grow bags or smart pots to get the most out of your floor space. If that's not possible, I would try for square buckets.

You could make a giant bed of soil... No-till style, just chop and re-plant new clones...

Are you thinking vert or horizontal? What size light? Like RonSmooth said, focus mostly on ventilation... environment is the most important factor THEN lights... too many people focus on the lights first... I have been guilty of it before...

Looking to throw my 400w mh/hps cool hood for lighting. If heat becomes a issue the ballast can be dialed down to 250w.Ill have a 6inch inline fan sucking air from hood then out to a can33 carbon filter. Looks like with this set up I should be aim for 3 feet for finishing heights on plants. Looking to start something that doesn't stretch too much, maybe Bubba Kush S1s. Ill put up a pic within the next few days so you all can let me know what ya think. I cant alter the closet too much so I got to make the best as circumstances allow.

My choice would be 6 or 3, set my light to 250w and see how it goes. But I don't know about things like this. Good luck
