Small Co. Med grow (SD, BigB,SK1,CBx)

Good day everyone, as the title says, my nice little (6 plants or less) medical closet is starting to take off into flower. This is my second round with the same small "China" LED, first run was a great learning experience (lost a lot of my green thumb in the years I didn't grow my own). The light still got me 0.54 gpw with 2 plants.

Now with things slightly changed with my growing techniques, I ended up with 5 plants with known sex and 1 still a little seedling.

Light: ~165 true watt; 100 x 3w LED "full spectrum" Chinalight :woohoo:... under 200$ shipped, got me ~3.2 oz last run with 2 plants

Plants:
2 Sour Diesel are female
1 Big Bud is female
1 Skunk #1 is female
1 'NLx IBL' is male, took him aside to grow a little more, collecting pollen to have some fun with
1 "CeltiX Berry" (Celtic Berry x 'NLx IBL') unknown, maybe 1.5 weeks old.

1st pic is the group shot, yes there's 4 females in there :) . SDs on the right half or so, and the two on the left ?? ones Big Bud ones Sk#1, I think I know what one is the BB, but only flowering will tell me for sure

2nd pic is my first attempt at cloning :headbange 18 hours after cutting. Took 4 lower nodes on a SD (the slightly stretchy pheno, other one is a bushy node monster) and tried to make some clones. They didn't get much light so figured I would try and put them to good use. If they root I will keep the weakest one for myself, the other 3 will go to a good friend in need of meds, I hope they root

Well its been 3 or so days on the cuttings and they look the same, no drooping or any new yellowing, might be over watering/misting the dome, but I don't know. Am I on the track to success? I guess we will see in a week or so, I hope so as myself and others need some good meds :) .

I will continue to post and talk to myself as usual, the padded walls are great as always :bump:

Thanks for stopping by babelfish, I know... bumping my own thread in under 24 hours! I usually work with seeds and have always thought of cloning as "Out of my league". I knew it would take some time to root, but I see others (new to cloning) popping back in after so many hours/days having problems. It was just odd for ME to have NO changes or problems with them for 3+ days, when I consider myself having "a browner thumb than a greener one"

I didn't even get OCD like everyone does when taking clones, ISO down everything in sight... Nope forgot to buy ISO, so my old scissors and razor I found was just used without thinking twice. Cloning hormone/Rooting gel... Nope don't have money to spend on that crap, found my bag of Azomite (67+ minerals and other great things) added to some water, took a cutting and dipped in the water for a minute or two... Put into cheap-o "Jiffy" cubes (store brand Jiffy pucks...) then misted the dome.

I did however watch tons of BooTube videos and read even more cloning threads and tips all over the interweb, so I was a little more prepared than most maybe? :)

More pics to come when the rest of the room has some bud porn. Hopefully I can get my post count up by then

The SK#1 (I think, could be the Big Bud) is starting to get a chunky top already, she showed hairs maybe 4 days back and is already getting ready to starting packing on the weight, can't wait to see her in 8 weeks time.

The SD's are just starting to slow down their massive stretch mode, had to "LST"/Bend/Pinch the taller less bushy one. Trying to get some empty space filled under the light, and I was afraid she was going to grow into my LED.

looks pretty humid in there, i've had really good results with the heatmats. (10-20 @ lowes/homedepot/amazon). anywhere from 7-14 days for well rooted clones for me. had a few pop in 5-6 but that's the exception.

Wanted to post a "WTF!" moment with the plant I think is Sk#1...

2 pics and we are done for today, to make this post short and sweet.

pic 1 is taken 2 days before the next... as you can see I had to bend and almost snap the top Kola on her for growing too tall and taking too much light after switching the planters around after watering :woohoo:

Sour Ds on the right side in first pic, then the left for the second pic.
Skunk#1 is the second plant from the left of first pic, then moved over (right) one spot for the next pic. :tiphat:

Another pic take a couple days ago; mainly the Sour Ds, can slightly see the other two gals.

They all responded well to a light feeding of a 'flower and bloom booster' from Dr. Earth 4-10-7 :woohoo: , added 2 tablespoons (half the recommended dose) to see how it mixes and responds with the girls. I will add the rest in a few weeks if they ask for it.

Hey scoot over in here!

Thanks for stopping by OKD. Plenty of room left in here, let me get my comfy chairs out  .

The girls are just starting to take off into full on flower, hairs and bud sites starting to form everywhere, pics of that to come in a few more days to a week :tiphat: . I'm still fighting with that PITA Skunk#1, she just wants to grow into my light and take every last bit of room for herself, think she is finally done stretching and fighting tho, its on to budding .

Just got my new bag of Dr. Earth nutrients Bud and Bloom Booster, so I took a picture of a few of the Organics I use to mix into my soil.

Jobe's, Dr. Earth, and Alaska brand. I also use Espoma (not pictured) when the others can't be had. All cost in the $1-3 per pound, and I only use a tablespoon every so many inches of soil so they last forever the way I use them :ying: .

How about a few pics, taken 2 days apart. Took a few big fan leaves off ALL the girls, help them breath and see the light a little better. I seemed to have forgotten about the male I put outside, when to check on him and give him water/take some pollen and the poor guy was cooked and crispy... No male to breed with this round, he didn't seem that special anyway, seemed to smell more sweet than any kind of piney (I usually try to find a Pine smelling male to breed this line with).

Gave one more try at keeping Skunk#1 under control, almost snapped the top 3 or 4 inches of the main kola off (you can see the straw I used to keep her together in the second pic)... but the defiant B* she is, even broken and bent, hours later when I checked on her... she was starting to stand back up again!

Starting to look like I will have a wonderful Thanksgiving (about the time these plants will be jarred/cured for a month or so). And with these in full bloom I have to start thinking of what all I'm growing next round, so far 2 types of Haze x Skunk crosses made the list and maybe Hashberry and some PurpleX (Purple Rhino x 'NLx IBL') but things change every day... will it be Herijuana? GumTree? G-Bolt? Super Silver Spice? Cindy99? KQ? Thai Skunk? Celtic strains? the list just goes on and on!

:> looking fun, and sounds like you've got some great plans!!

Looks like maybe some LST is in order, to even up the canopy, good luck!

Looks like maybe some LST is in order, to even up the canopy, good luck!

My form of 'LST' is just using 2 fingers and a thumb then bend them (can hear them snap/crackle/pop a little and usually they are good to go), no strings or wires in my magic show (maybe next time when I try to Levitate), just sleight of hand  . Some girls are just stubborn and want to outgrow my limited space, some girls just thrive off a little abuse... and that SK is one to keep coming back for another beating.

I was going to SCROG this round, but didn't have the time to make up a wire meshing that would fit in my room. So then I moved on to topping/'LST' the girls, I figured the way SK was growing it was going to be a male so I left it to grow, then days later I noticed a ton of hairs and about the same amount of stretch, so she started getting the bending treatment.

All of the girls seem to have liked the Bloom booster (Dr. Earth, ~2 tablespoons per plant). Might be a little strong for the Sour Ds, I have seen a slight clawing at the tips... no yellowing/burning at the tips, just a slight claw  . But it seems they are all happy with things, I am watching closely to see if they want extra water at any time.

Also I am happy to report that 2 of the 4 clones survived and made it to their new home, 50% survival rate (so far) with minimal effort and no cloning solution... the other two are getting a few more days to a week to show anything, if they live the rest will go to my friend also... I am out of space in my little room as it is.

cracking and such are HST (high stress training) styles. such as supercropping and so forth.. i usually don't use these mid-flowering.

They never seem "stressed" when I do it, that's why I put ' ' around "my 'LST' ". I understand it's a higher stress than just using strings and holding them where you bend them, but when done right the plants just grow and don't care from a little pinch.

:thank you: How about some pics to show "the magic show" and how only one plant is really taller the others I managed to keep in line with a slight topping and bending.

Hi mate
Any chance you can mention the model of LED your using and where you got it from?
I'm looking to upgrade a similar setup due to heat issues and this light seems to be working nicely for you (lovely pics!).

I don't mind at all, thanks for stopping by.

I ordered it straight from China from a company called "Shenzhen JingChuangXin Optical Co.,Ltd.". It was under 200$ shipped, no customs fees either... 100 x 3w LED "GG-ZWD-300w(100*3w)" I opted for a "Full spectrum" that included both IR and UV... don't remember all the 'nm' values for those.

For the price of the unit, my style of growing (small medical grow for personal use, me daily and the wife when she needs it), this LED is great... Lower heat than my old 150w HPS, less light penetration, but has great yield potential. Last grow it used ~165 true watts (~$29.xx in electricity the whole grow) and yielded ~3.2 ounces off of 2 plants that were abused beyond belief  . 4 females this time and NO mistakes thus far... can't wait to see the yield.

I see the price has dropped another 20$ or so for the unit I ordered... Might be about time to get another one

Hope this helps; and  welcome to the site

Do you use some special setting for white balance when taking pictures ? I wonder why all of your pictures have this blue tint, especially when the girls are flowering.

P.S. Have a look at this thread is you missed it : https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=257274

Thanks for stopping in hempfield, it was actually one of your threads on LEDs that got me looking into them; now to the Q'

I think it's just my Nikon camera, I have already been on that page and is why I started messing with the White Balance. I have no idea why it always has a blue tint? I only have one "setting" to mess with the White Balance, and have messed with it a lot... I will start taking pics with the girls out of the room from now on

I placed a nice white sheet of paper under my LED light, focused on the paper, hit the button, it re-zooms and changes focus a few times... I placed a bright white sheet of paper in different places, near plants, on top of them, beside them, with no plants and just the white paper, I have tried almost everything to get it 'balanced' right, even different angles and distances, nothing seems to work? Might need a different type of paper? A better camera? I don't know, but I do know... I'm done messing with that damn filter

Some people like the way the pics look, others want pics with the LED shining, some want plain pics under natural light... I just take a pic when it is easy and convenient, usually around watering time, or right after lights on, snap a pic or two and call it good.

More pics to come Thursday that will be 14 or 15 days 'flowering', ~22 days 12/12
