Dumbest Weed Names

Hello all,
I am inclined to think they are all dumb ass names.
Back in the day, the name merely indicated where it was reputedly grown (ie, Mexican, Oaxacan, Columbian, Jamaican, Thai...).
Now they have all these fu fu names.
And while I am on the subject, I find that today everybodies an expert on what is good bud and what is not.
This bud is more expensive because it smells like such and such and looks like this or that and tastes more like that then this.
In the 37 years I have been toking...in the end, after you have burned it, what it really comes down to for me (and most others of my age group) does it get you high and is the high good and how long it lasts? With smokability second.
I believe the name game is all about marketability.
And finally, to quote a famous playwright " ...a rose by any other name is still a rose"

the old way at least gave u some idea of lineage and what to expect ,
nowadays the name bears no resemblance to anything often ..
then there ends up being a debate about what the name means , og for instance ,,
see the confusion it all causes ...

This naming thing ..has really gotta be sorted out, like some centralized HQ, or something where growers and breeders can get there names registered ..
Normally I'd be against something like this, but right now I'm growing Old Toby from South Star seeds(Au) old toby is 20% sativa(why I grow it) its a trainwreck and white widow cross.. so how can I be certain ....? I ain't so have to trust (R) the breeder ...so who does he trust ...?

Whenever they just combine the name of two parent plants. I mean, at least try to put a lil imagination into it. But then again, at least you know what your getting and don't end up with shit like Green Crack or Crystal Meth.

That's what i've always said, only i don't live in Cambodia. Name like that, that's just not kool, man.
I don't think the locality naming scheme is specific enough for today's needs, unless you want to dig deeper and attach someone's address to herb. Since there can be more than one phenotype grown per region 'Mexican, American, Canadian' would only work as the exporting country.

Strawberry dog shit, sorry CSG but I always hated this one. There is no dogshit in the DNA so why inclue it in the name. It's like crossing bubba kush with haze and calling it gran daddy bubba? What? It might be your favorite bubba but with no GDP in the lineage it just makes for confusion. I think CSG even said they named it that because, who wouldn't want something called strawberry dog shit, it's all in the hype.

there's too many that piss me off but mainly the myriad of gangster shit/names with NONE said name in actual lineage, like samson is saying, or otherwise deceptive names..ive had clubs offer me their bagseed when they find out I do selective breeding with males in spare time and when I ask about the history they'll go well its ACTUUUALLY this strain from this seedbank, but we call it this.. all hype with dispensaries its a shame
I'm almost certain train wreck was named do to circumstances surounding an actual train wreck. Old Humboldt hippies told me some stories during trim season years ago. I don't want to try and recall it in my hazyness, but yea there is some reasoning behind the TW tag.
