I should add that your strain selection should be based upon what you are trying to use it for. If you are looking for medical strains then most of the popular commercial recreational varieties are poor choices. They have been bred with one thing in mind, recreational inebriation. Thus they tend to be rather lacking in CBD which is probably the most important cannabinoid for most medicinal users. (Those patients treating pain, and inflammation in particular.)

Some good medicinal pain killing strains include Herijuana, Harlequin, and Juanita la lagrimosa. For treating things like migraine or daytime use, good sativa strains work well such as many of the hazes although some strains with "haze" in their names really aren't all that sativa leaning. You have to look at the lineage to see if they are still mostly tropical sativa or not. For a good strong pure tropical sativa that is still relatively easy to grow I would recommend Destroyer. (By relatively easy I mean it stretches only about abother 4 feet after the 12/12 flip and will finish flowering in under 14 weeks. Don't over fertilize it with N or you will strait up kill this strain.)
