Discussion of the pragmatic application of LED's

Weez,

If you know anyone who has a young healthy body he or she no longer needs that will be great. (LOL) Otherwise there is nothing other than what you and many others have done already. Thanks for being a friend. Just keep an eye on the thread to make sure it stays relatively useful and not turn into a flame war on differing technologies is all I can hope for. I'm trying to use speech recognition software to replace typing for posts. It's too early to know if it will help in the long run.

Petlfora,
Weez and I are buds, the gifting was symbolic and I didn't really expect him to put in any extra time and effort. At our age time is very precious, as is true friendship. Weez is in every way capable of leading this and countless discussions. But ya gotta put your good where it will do best and only he can decide what is best for him.

Rives,
Thank you so very much for your comment. I would like to say that I never thought I was educating anyone, merely trying to foster intelligent discussion so that information could be shared freely. I hope that continues even in my absence.

Verdant Green,
Thanks for the kind words. They truly mean a lot.

He Hempy i can understand ya for sure, i got on here to read cuz typing for me is not easy. Im a quad and use a pencil and cuff that holds it yet, i got on to read only as i can barley get my arm off my body to type, my butt is whipped you could say. And im finding it get tougher everyday. Its very frustrating not to enjoy what you like sometimes.

I really hope you can find a speak type program and i believe they are out there, i have heard to watch what your getting though as some lower end priced ones do not work well.

I joined this site as a bunch of friends flocked here, but also for all the LED info i found here. I would like to thank you for all you have done for me and everyone else who found there way here.

But in less your simply finished here, i will see you back after some chill time and maybe the software you talked about. Heck i saw a post in here and got all giddy like, plus once there was A post it started to get visits in here.

SeeYa

Get better man, thats all ya gotta worry about, things seem to work themselves out for the good, when its all about the good i believe.

I use HGL units with 75% red, 15% green, and 10% blue. I supplement this to 60, 20, 15, and an added 5% UVB.
Less red makes sticky plants and UVB makes creeper weed. I bought commercial units but have to supplement them for the plant strain being grown. The overheads are definitely LED, all the blue surround in the world won't drown out that red glow.

Well, I don't know the main players here since I am fairly new as well but I have been playing around with LED's for a bit and am ready to move into the DIY category. Actually waiting for a delivery from China as we speak but it's a National holiday over there for a week or so hence I must wait.

I do not know any background on many people but sounds like medical issues abound and that is something I can relate to although my maladies do sound nearly as severe as some seem to have. I wish there was some way I could help but alas, we all bear our own 'cross'.

I had a little thread going titled "My leds and the errors of my ways" or something along those lines which goes into detail about my experiences with leds so far.

I hope to one day (sooner than later) contribute some useful information for I have some thoughts and theories I would like to experiment with before I stick my foot in my mouth.;)

I look forward to seeing how this thread develops and I also want to add that I hope your pains and discomforts are tolerable for one more day...........

Thank you

Also waiting on custom built lamps from china, 660, 630, 440, cool white - 5:5:1:4
on here cats have been getting their panels super close, mine are recommended for 1-2 mtrs away....?

will report back after trials.

I've become increasingly interested in building my own as well even though I bought a fairly decent one I almost immediately came up with a long list of ideas to improve it. :)

I'm thinking more along the lines of that kit that guy in europe is / was selling when I get around to it. Seems like a good starting point.

Well, that's can vary from country to country. I have noticed that in my country (Romania) if the package is small and it has a low value (like under $30) declared, no extra charges occurs.

But this also depends on custom officer on duty

Soooo just a thought about different varieties liking/not liking LEDs over HID or the Sun.

I do not actually know this for certain, but I believe it is pretty likely that some strains have been completely bred and developed under artificial lighting. A breeder might choose the varieties to keep and cross that do well under their given light without even needing to think about the lighting aspect, simply based on overall "better looking" growth.

This makes me think 2 things:

1) Plants bred under HID may be well adapted to this light, and not do as well either under the sun, or under spectrum specific LEDs.

2) Plants could be bred to perform better under LEDs. If anyone is already doing this I love to know!!

If anyone knows of any strains that could be proven to be developed under any particular artificial lighting I would love to know that too.

It would be cool to compare a strain like that to a landrace variety, which definitely developed outside, in an LED grow.

It would also be cool to the strain mentioned a while back in this thread that did poorly under LED and put it under and different spectrums to see if we could find what is "missing"

Still here but less and less LED enthusiasts can be found on ICMag. Maybe more people are switching to commercial LED units because they get more affordable ?

Don't really matter where they get 'em.
This thread is about how to use them properly, yah?

Glad you're still here too. :)

That's a shame, as designs by mj growers have distanced themselves from run of the mill commercial offerings

Hi-Intensity LEDs are the difference maker along with carefully chosen spectrum balance for veg, then flower

Where my Silver Skunk stretched a lot under the non-Hi-Intensity BML SPYDR 600, I had to acclimate to the Amare Tech Solar Specs, which are H I, which keeps plants shorter, even sats. This is great news for low tent height growers

Still out here, just not an avid poster, I am running a "commercial" LED unit from blackstar - it is the 480v2.0. draws 300 from the wall. @hempfiled your thread is great and right inline with the power consumption I am looking for.
