What would you recommend for new growers and especially older growers who have never grown before, what set up would you recommend for mostly personal use but a desire to grow high grade weed?

Someone suggested a "Photron" system because of it being self contained, simple and not take up much space?

What say you, pretend you are setting up a 65 year old who has never grown anything indoors in his life but really needs access to high quality med cannabis. Put together the perfect indoor system for this senior citizen.

P.S. Some amazing pictures of even more amazing plants in the thread right next to this one in the Florida Growers Thread. Is it really possible in your opinion for an old dog to learn how to grow something that good in a small area, maybe half of a closet maximum?

P.S.S. Did I post this in the right category?

this probably belongs in the new growers forum. no worries though.

if i had only a closet to work with, first of all, i'd start from proven clones. hunting for phenos is a precarious endeavor when you're: a) a rank novice, and b) only able to pop a handful of seeds at a time.

next, i'd keep things as simple as possible. outfit your closet with some simple venitilation to keep temps and humidity down. next, add as much lighting as you can without driving the temps very much above 80°F. a bunch of CFL's would be a good choice, but a single 400 or 600 HID could work too.

now get some good organic potting mix. i like aurora, but there are a bunch out there. start in small pots (maybe 1 gallon). give them 18 hours of light, ample water (but not too much) and watch them grow. when they outgrow these, you'll be ready to flower. transplant to something bigger. the tall 5 gallon rose pots are good for tight spaces. at this stage, you'll probably want to choose a "hotter" soil. that is, one with with more of a nutrient charge. specifically, you're looking for less nitrogen and more phosphorous and potassium (or the P-K in N-P-K). switch your lights to 12/12 and away you go.

if it's not your grow and you're setting it up for a friend, you might recommend that they get on this or another decent forum so you won't have to field all their rookie questions by your lonesome.

Hi,
Not sure of your budget, so this may be more than you want to spend, but I just started a few months back with a RainForest 66 from GH. It's easy to maintain and my two little seeds have filled my 1 meter square tent from wall to wall, and it's now been in flowering mode for about 3 weeks. The one thing you have to be aware of is height, since the tops of the grow pots are about 2 feet off the floor level.

The one downside is that since it is an "all-in-one" unit everything in it has to be on the same cycle, either veg or flowering. I set up a cloning table next to the grow tent and have a few there that will be ready to go when Mary and Joanna are ready to harvest. :)

Good luck!

I'd start with a tent, an air cooled light, and a carbon filter. 2 inline fans; one for venting lights and another for venting/odor control on the filter. You can combine the the light and filter venting and go with one fan, which is even more simple, but not my preference. A grow tent really makes things simple.

Need to know what kind of space you have available and ambient temperatures and relative humidity.
