Why not, we built thousands of miles of highways without depending on immigrants. Now if they want to build 700 miles of fense while paying well below minimum wage then yes, we would need immigrants to get that done. See there is this myth that there is work that Americans will not do. It's not that Americans are afraid of work, they just refuse to do it for less then legal wages. If the only work I could find was cleaning toilets I'd do it if it paid minimum wage or better but I'll be damned if I'll do it for a buck three eighty per hour.

OK .... "we built thousands of miles of highways" but since then they have been resurfaced repeatedly by folks who just got here

and ......." they just refuse to do it for less then legal wages" but that work still gets done by people who will work for minimum (and therefor legal) wage. The sad truth is that immigrants will be more than happy to work for less money than most people think they should be earning to do the same job. They show up day in and day out for what some of us would call shit jobs because it is a step up from where they started .......... and the boss who is paying them minimum wage instead of the $20 the job is worth so he can call it all legal:) ......Well, his family has been here for at least 3 generations and the first one busted it's ass every day in a series of shit jobs for minimum wage so they could give their kids a shot at something better, and those kids worked there ass off to send junior to school ........ so junior could be as kind and as fair to his employees as his grandfather's boss was to him:biggrin:. Then junior will try desperately to teach his son a good work ethic while the new junior chases some local tail around in dad's mercedes and after he knocks one of them up dad will give him a job as a supervisor. He will eventually inherit the business and after dad passes away he will wind up selling all the equipment to a third generation immigrant so he call pay his own son's lawyer bills or retire when he is 50.

and the whole time every single one of these groups will believe that they are the one cog in the big machine that nobody else could possibly do without:tiphat: ..... and the cycle will start again

.......or maybe i'm just stoned

I'm not trying to sound unpatriotic or bash immigrants! :ying: I smoke to much pot for that. Turns out that weed makes me think-n-stuff

Well I'm not talking minimum wage because that is legal and I know quite a few Americans that have been here for generations and who used to get decent salaries above minimum wage, that would love to get ahold of a minimum wage job now. Nor am I talking about legal immigrants, if they followed the legal steps to get here then they have as much right as the next person to work for a fair wage. What is happening though is that lots of those minimum wage jobs are being given at below minimum wage to people who are illegal. Which they'll gladly take because like you say it's a step up from what they were used to. The employers will happily do it also because they save on salary plus if they're illegal they don't have to pay for unemployment insurance for those employees. Then on top of that with times being as tough as they are employers hiring for better then minimum wage jobs also want to save money and so knowing people are desperate, they are now getting the folks who worked above minimum wage to do the same work for at or near minimum wage. So for the first time historically we are seeing the earning potentials actually decline from generation to generation even though more people then ever are receiving college educations. There have even been reports that big box stores who now have to pay a higher minimum wage then they did years ago are now demanding applicants have at least an AA degree rather then just a high school diploma. Although that's not all together unreasonable but is a bitter pill for poor families to swallow since they're least likely to afford any college.

I'm not accusing you of being unpatriotic or bashing immigrants either. It is an interesting topic and there are many ways to look at it so it does make for good stoner discussion/contemplation although I understand why you state your intent too, many do get very emotional over this issue.

I'm kinda curious as to what you were doing during History class in school, but you are probably as stoned as I, so nevermind...

I've been smelling the same exact bud at the last three concerts I've been to. After last concert recently, I come home and go to the dispensary and get something called "God Bud".

I light it up the other night and I smell the same thing I smelled at the concerts, "Whoa, nice. Those people are onto something man."

So people have been smoking God Bud at all the shows, huh...I can't wait for reggae on the rocks!

it matters not, how big you actually are, how big you think you are is also of little consequence, because there is always room for growth...

What if mankind only moves forward when one or more reaches an understanding of a certain truth that can only be achieved by contemplation while under the influence of marijuana? As we all know a stereotypical characteristic of getting high is that it causes people to contemplate things philosophically. So it could be argued from one perspective that the very purpose for nature even creating marijuana is to aid us in understanding truth and moving forward.

Not to suggest that anyone who smokes weed and has deep philosophical thoughts will move human evolution forward. Rather that finding that truth is still a rare and special thing but it can only be found while high. If that were the case then this stupid War On Drugs we have to endure could explain why in the last 100 years societal evolution has been at a near standstill while things like technological evolution has greatly accelerated. Rather then both moving forward at the same pace if we'd just stop lying to ourselves about the evils of weed.

when a man wants a child and a woman doesn't, men have to respect the womans body and her decision, but when its reversed why doesn't the mans decision get the same respect??
