Help me post pics safely so I can honor commitment! thanks!

I have an older pc, windows sp3 is all it can handle I think, someone I trust has a much newer apple laptop but not sure how to use it. Do I need Tor or other things like that? If someone is watching my computer from somewhere, they'd see what they want anyway and it would look more fishy would it not? A mod suggested Infranview, but is now not getting back to me and I need to know how to use it! I have a canaventure test thread I want to post but until I have some answers, I cannot. thanks!

I don't understand your question.

Are you looking for help uploading the images, or are you concerned about site security?

This site is VERY secure and hosted outside of the USA, if that helps your confidence level.

The ONLY compromise to your security here is revealing personal information about your self online - which is true of anywhere you go on the Internet.

Make sure all images have no faces or identifying objects within the picture.

If you have any more specific questions ask away!

:)

HAHAHAHA yes I am very confused that is true! :D
I don't currently use tor, way back when I tried the tor/privoxy bundle several times and the tor was way too slow and the privoxy pulled up error messages. then I remember hearing somewhere about some paid service, don't know it was proxy or encryption related or even quite what that means. Way too complicated I think! I saw skip saying somewhere that proxies help with hiding ip numbers or something. So Tor is a proxy then? So sure I am way way confused, so I can't blame you for being perplexed!

Basically, I want to be as safe as possible. I have infranview now but no clue how to use it. One question was therefore how to use it to remove exif/metadata (although not sure if my 2002 or 2003 digital camera even has that, again don't remember what that is). So direct help or at least a link to a tutorial for using infranview would be nice. Also your opinion on what if any other online safety precautions I need to take would be great, what is really necessary in other words. ;) I do not use facebook or other such social media, and don't own a cellphone. Believe it or not, I have taken pics that included growbags, and then noticed I could shockingly see my reflection there if I moved them a certain way. But I can avoid posting those pics. So it is good to hear about the safety here but mainly I need to know if I need to remove metadata/exif using infranview or not, if so I need help figuring that out. If not, maybe I could send a harmless pic to you somehow in private and you could tell me if it has any unwanted info attached? I hope that helps more than it confounds, and I thank you for helping. peace

please help me as I have a completed grow to report (and the other half of that going on now) as well as a newly selected test grow! I have all kinds of pics and will post them but if I go down I will sue ICmag for all it has! ;) kidding of course but any help would be welcome. thanks!

I don't understand why you don't just put your pictures up. This site is really safe. I've been here for years and never had any problems. Why are you so paranoid?

well when you have cops in unmarked cars stopping dead in a busy street as you are in an adjacent parking lot and staring at you as they check their laptop and talk into their shoulder device (or so it seems), or staring you down as they are directing traffic, you would be paranoid too! :D anyway any safety advice would be welcome! like I said if some mod volunteered, I could register them as a friend and only they could view the pics at first, and then they could tell me what I need to correct before making it a public album. It seems like a perfectly reasonable request to me and a step that all should take. I know when I view the pics on my old pc, they list the camera make and model and nothing else, but I don't want anyone even knowing that if possible. thanks in advance for any help!

The advise that I could give you for your pictures is maybe don't use pictures that were taken from your cell phone. The problem with your request to mods looking at your pictures is that mods aren't really here for that. Maybe you will get lucky and they will help you out but the request seems a little out there to me. If you are really that paranoid then don't show pics containing more than 99 plants or don't show anything at all and just look around. I really don't know what to tell you. I've been here a long time and have posted picks with more than 120 plants in the past. The system really got you paranoid.

Thanks Snype... and all. I think this fellow had best use a digital camera instead of a cell phone, and if needed strip the exif manually before uploading. The upload process strips that out anyway. So no worries here...

Only worry is to upload pics that have no identifying marks... and you have to edit that stuff out yourself. We aren't going to do that for you, sorry.

Best of luck and thanks for your perseverance!

I don't think it is out there at all sype. I know there is an option to only allow your contacts/friends to view your pics, and that would provide a safety net and should be not an undue added inconvienence to any mod. Maybe it's not in their job description, I don't know, but regardless what is so unreasonable about that? They just have to look and say it's ok or you have some unwanted data there, what is the big deal with that? (I know on my pc pic viewer, whatever it's called, that it reveals the camera make and model and don't know if that is a problem but if it is I want to eliminate that data, what you don't want may be elimated when uploading to icmag but I heard that may not necessarily be the case) I mean I am truly sorry if I am unconveniencing anyone but I am risking my ass here literally so I would think it would be understandable. No not over 99 plants (have been though before between seedlings and flowering plants and clones) but I have in the past seen plenty lesser grows in the news. Payaso, if you mean my face or a pic of a news article involving my town, no I don't think any of that is there and that is at my own risk fair enough. I don't know if it is my imagination or not but grow shows, especially big ones like those 20,000 plus watt ones (not me I do 2 or 3 but may get there who knows) are a lot scarcer of late. So I have to not through all caution to the wind just yet! I do have an old digital cam but I have heard others on here say they use this or that exif data remover and others reveal all kinds of details about them. I don't think reassurance is too much to ask with all the awesome potential pics I have to offer and the service that provides to the seed makers! I will be less paranoid and post pics recklessly if necessary, but I don't think that is necessary on either end. thanks

O

OKD

I'll look at pics for you and tell you whatmetadata I see. Not sure I can help with anything else though...

I could be wrong but I think if the mods were to do what you were asking in open forum, that it opens the site up to legal issues that that can possibly cause harm to the site. This site is here for us to use and they give us the opportunity to use it. There are hundreds of thousands of pictures on this site and if it was a risk, no one would be posting up anything. I'm sure these mods have many other things to do here than to help everyone with their pictures. If I were you I would do some research on google and figure out how to alleviate your concerns. I don't mean any disrespect to you in anyway at all. I'm actually interested to see what you have to post up here. Anyway, happy growing and I hope you figure out your issues.

if you want just certain people seeing your albums, set them to private, then add in the friends and/or contacts groups just the ones you want to see your pics.

if you want to be sure you aren;t uploading any hidden data with you pictures (EXIF info) read more on removing exif from pictures. there are some threads here about that, or you can research it online.

i think icmag does anything it can to protect it's users, take care about what you post and show and you'll be fine.

well I don't think I have any issues at all, it is the rest of the world, yeah how selfish or narcisstic of me! ;) that said, I don't think this should be an issue at all just asking if pics have data or not but if what you say is true, that is a legitimate concern. well I still hope to hear positive vibes from you, but I just now say OKD's post. ok that will work! I will post pics in a private folder and you can see if there is any metadata. I thank you from the bottom of my heart! I mean, I went on some weather website today and clicked temporarily allow all on noscript, and it gave me some message about some possible clickjacking attempt. I know you can get false positives with such things, but this was a cause for concern and let it through to see interactive radar, so although unlikely some jackoff could own my computer now! :D

yes explosiv, that is what I am talking about and what OKD just volunteered to do for me THANK GOD! the point is, is there exif data with a 2002 or 2003 era digital camera? or despite removing all data, if they are keylogging or data mining or whatever, can they see what they want anyway? I know I tried downloading a top program, forgot what it is called, but I couldn't figure out how to do anything including just resizing pics. forgive me I am not all that paranoid just dense as to what I need to do! I will upload pics to a private album tomorrow I think. peace
