How, when and what to feed

Hi there ICers,
I am new and am not sure if this is the proper place to ask this question. But I was wondering where one finds the knowledge of how, when and what to feed your gals? The question may seem simple but I find it more complicated now that I am almost done with my first round of flowering.

I know the books I have point out what your leaves look like when they are lacking a certain nutrient and really dont point out how to remedy the problem. When looking further for information I just find myself getting lost wether it could be a lockout or just not enough of a nutrient.

At the stores, they sell a butt ton of this and that and explosive growth this and monster blooms that. Where does a newbie find what he really needs to use? When to use it and how.

Since becoming a new grower, I have started with soil, Roots Organic. The nutrients I chose are Pure Blend Pro, grow and bloom. Since starting the flowering stage I found there are a lot of addatives you can use besides the basics. Are these needed? If so, where do you learn to use them? Is it a trial and error type thing? Is it a waste of money?

I ask because my flowers appear to be lacking girth compared to the photos I see of other users. It maybe a lack of experience or mistakes on my behalf. I tried to keep things simple and only feed on every third watering. Midway in flowering I added a product cal/mag to help with the yellowing but I didnt know if it was right or wrong. It did not help the yellowing.

Anyhow, Im too baked and have lost my thoughts. I hope there are some ICers that understand what information I am trying to get as I just want to become a great grower and provide some quality medication.

I hope I do not piss anyone off for posting here as that is not my intention. I also do not care for those that say READ READ READ. My brain is tired and confused. Lost in the knowledge if you will and hope there are others that can simplify things for me.

Thanks in advance and also for your time.

I dont mind answering your questions, and a lot of the reading you will do, especially in those books will likely not help you....people may wanna stone me for things I am likely to say at times but I know what I'm doing. Jorge Cervantes actually says that cannabis stops functioning above 90 degrees or something like that, that's straight up bullshit.most of the books suck, just my opinion.

The pure blend pro grow and bloom are great well balanced products. I would suggest you water and feed daily, with pure blend every day use 10-15 ml per gallon. Cal mag is not needed with pure blend pro. A lot of the giant buds you see at times are due to triacontanol, or 6-bap. Tria is what is in the extremely overpriced product called snow storm and many others. You can make your own tria mix at home for a few cents. I don't think you are ready to play with pgr's yet though.

I have never used roots organic but it's probably ok, happy frog is really good, I do know that. I personally only use promix hp indoors and it is most of my mix outdoors as well.it needs more frequent feed and water but the plants blow up in it.

Ask anything you want, if I can help I will.

HiYa SunGrown, thanks for the info. I am with you about the 90 degree thing because I put some plants outside and it has been in the 90's for a few weeks and they look fine. Maybe they would do better in a cooler climate but they sure havent stopped growing because the high temps.

The Pure Blend Pro I am happy with but I just think I should get more from my plants. There are a lot of additives you can buy and I am not sure if it worth the money. I have been looking at other growers photographs and they have their space utilized a lot better and plants appear to have multiple tops vs. my plants are spaced farther appart and only a few tops. I need to learn to train them to have more tops I think.

Hope this is not stupid but what does pgr stand for?

The roots organic is all I can get a hold of besides what they sell at HD. I used the HD stuff to plant my outdoor but have since read I would have been better off mixing up some real good soil with blood meal, bone meal etc. Live and learn. What can I say its my first time at bat lol.

The wife let me buy a few rockwool cubes that I want to try out but I think I am getting in to deep. I want too much too fast. This hobby just excites me. I sit there for hours staring at my plants. My wife thinks Im a little nuts. I wonder if others have this problem lol.

On my next batch of flowring plants, which is coming soon, I will feed at every watering and see how that turns out. I did take some photos today of my flowers and a few leaves to show what is happening. The flowers dont seem to be exploding like I want them to. Maybe I need that triacantanol or 6-bap.

90 degrees is nothing, my greenhouse was hitting over 100 degrees daily early spring and the blue dreams were putting on 3 inches a day easy with leaves fat as my head. Ganja usually does well with high heat/high humidity. I am not saying go do that...one day when you can play, sure!

To get multiple tops indoors just pinch the top of your plant after the 4th or 5th node...then veg for another week...so many variables. light, heat, co2/fresh air...etc

or just do a 15 or so ogs under a light with a trellis and watch out!

I personally dislike rockwool, oasis blocks or rapid rooters or promix are my preferences for rooting...and I suggest always taking cuts off your plants if you want to be self sufficient with your new hobby.

Save your money, do your research on mixing your own nutes and bloom boosters. There is actually a ton of great info and some current threads on both of these points here on icmag.

Every dollar you don't spend is one you can bury!

I have been gardening for a good bit and I still walk around my plants dozens of times a day. Just like your kids or your family or your friends, if you love something you will be checking in.

Ill see if I can find your pic thread on here and take a look.

You have a lot of great info SunGrown. Thanks for the advice as well.

I have not had a chance to upload my pics from the camera as I was busy checking out the threads and also I am such a slow typer. I peck and poke with 2 fingers lol.

The wife is yelling at me now too as it is diner time so the pics will have to wait for now. It has been great chatting with you and cant wait to learn more. Talk with you soon.

It`s best to know the whats, whens, and hows for your cannabis. Generally, when the plant wants water, water it. :) Some people say, every other day, some people say "top 2inches dry", so on ect..

I have 20 gallon buckets with re-used soil, I feed them my home brew of organic tea with a ppm of over 1200 to a pH of 6.8. I feed them 5 gallons EVERY DAY of tea. stalks the size of baseball bats.

Sweet! You should post your tea recipe for him here, unless it's already posted somewhere else. Your plants indoors with that regimen? I always reuse my soil/promix with no problems.

For my first crop, I used Roots Organic Original formula with earthworm castings and a sardine. Epsom salts, kelp, and molasses at the appropriate times until harvest. I used a moisture meter to water. I let it go all the way dry before watering. Phed water. Big containers = big yield.

I grew 5-7 ft tall plants that didn't look unlike the ones you see here in the test grows. My patients repeatedly asked for HOL Casey's Queen.

This is an admittedly simple method devised by a noob that knows he don't know shit. I figured if I ever had a problem, I was basically screwed. So, I tried to idiotproof the process anyway I could.

I learned a lot my first grow. So will you. Hope this helps. bg

Damn Seal-Clubber, baseball bats. I am growing pencils lol. Hopefully I will get to your level one day. I am growing in 2 gal containers though compared to 20 gal containers. I too added earth worm castings but not the other items you mentioned. I am going to have to get a hold of those items if the wife will let me lol.

HiYa SunGrown, I will have to learn how to make tea. It sounds simple enough, but yeah I really dont know what stuff to put in. I have seen a thread here with multiple recipes. Not sure which one is right for me.

Hi there bad gas lol. Funny user name. You used an acyual sardine? I heard that is what the Indians tought the Pilgrams how to grow corn back in the day. I was wondering if you could mention the appropriate times to use those products you listed and would I add that with thw Pure Blend Pro bloom or I wouldnt need that if I used the items you mentioned?

I too am learning a lot my first grow and cant get enough. I found my purpose lol.

How! Bad gas show palefaces Pilgrim method. Yes, I smash up a sardine and add a little beneficial organisms with each transplant in veg right under the rootball.

Kelp and molasses added approx every 2 weeks at approx 1/2 teaspoon/gal. If your water is low on calcium, use epsom salts at approx 1teaspoon/gal. A lot of people use bloom nutes in flower. I did not. I also didn't grow baseball bats. I tried to keep it as basic as possible. The people who populate the infirmary section typically are adding a lot of crap they don't know how to use.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day. bg

A sardine? Really? How about the smell and the ants? (And maybe maggots)
Also, there is no calcium in epsom salts. Only Magnesium and sulfur. Cheers!

Thanks bad gas for that info. I dont think I will do the fish thing but I will give fish emulsion a try. I just read it is really good stuff for your plants along with kelp. I also read molasses is great too. Who would have thought. I am not sure about my water, I just know I dont drink it cause it tastes like crap and has a smell of straight chlorine.

I think the wife has some epsom salt for her baths is that okay or is there a special one for gardening?

Thanks for the help. :tiphat:

Hi there Kcar, thats what I said too but whatever works. The Indians did it back in the day with great results. I am not sure about the smell.

Are ants bad for cannabis plants? I have a few outdoors and when I water them I see quite a few ants around. Are they a problem?

Thanks

In any soil Mix always use Dolomite Lime..source of Cal,Mag, and the All important PH Buffering..it is needed.I use a combo of Prilled and Powered at the rate of 1tbls each per gallon of soil. Your use of PBP is right on the money..its great stuff. You can also use a good stand alone Micro nutrient and a Silica supplement.I personally use Earth juice Micro and Dyna-Gro Silica. In all reality you could grow a great Crop using Pbp. Veg from start to Finish..Don't get caught up in all the Bloom booster Hype. The grow shops love to sell Newbies the latest and greatest Snake Oils! Marry Jane thrives on a simple well balanced diet..

Yo KaMoeKazee! Plants growing like crazy I hope!

Ants farm aphids, literally, so yes, keep the ants at bay...

And skunkenstein is right, with only pure blend pro you can have a great grow...I ran many indoor tables with only Pure blend pro for veg and flower and it can surprise ya...keep in mind I use promix hp for a medium and saturate the shit out of my pots daily. My temps run a little high though and I tend to run a lot of fans...so dial your room in for your room!

Boy, I feel like a noob on the epsom salts. Thanks for setting me straight. I thought it was a substitute for cal-mag. Sorry.

I've never gotten smell from the sardines. I'm indoor. Last crop, I used 25 of them all at once. They are buried underneath the rootballs.

Actually, I don't use dirt anymore. I've set up a Passive Plantkiller. I've got to try this. My first PPK crop is germinating this week.

As you can see right here in this thread, there's lots of successful methods. Most important, is dialing in all the parts of the environment. These guys are right on with their advice.

Have a nice day. bg
