hempy are a great way of growing erb. Been running coco/hemp for a while , 3yr + with decent results.

Coco is great user friendly medium to work with, hard to over water dude, considered as hydroponic soiless medium as you feed it each time. Can also be treated as organic if done correctly. It has great cation exchange properties which aid in nutrient uptake for plants.

You get cheap coco blocks or slightly more $ for pre-rinsed coco bags. Canna plus are good, plagron and also u-grow coco bricks. Some contain trichodermia a beneficial bacteria to help with desease, pests etc. good addition for coco.

Maybe start a diary/thread so we can help along the way. keep all the info together etc.

reason for using coco specific nutrients is due cocos ability to hold allot of calcium and magnesium same time releasing potassium over time. Coir nutrients have higher levels of calcium with lower levels of potassium.

Coco comes with allot of sodium. One reason why coco should be buffered before using. simple, just soak in water /calcium. rinsing coco with water first then calcium followed by water again will displace sodium ions with calcium.

using 3 part nutrients with coco hempy isn't a problem. I've run canna aqua + many others, switching to coco specific nutrients recently to see what all the fuss was about.. just pay attention to plants!!. Some nutrients are for re-circulating some for drain to waste, re-circulating tend to be more concentrated so maybe start with less. that's it!!!

For bucket, drill a hole 1.5-2" from the bottom. Fill the res, bottom half with perlite course rock, hydroton..what ever is at hand, followed by coco. You can mix 20%perlite to 80% coco to give it more fluffy feel. that's your bucket done. They also do well with medium to smaller buckets compared to a big one.

Things you need:ph pen
EC pen
cal-mag

either way hempys are fun! if it's not too late, think you'll be happy with it as a choice. Once you get going we can work on ways to dial your buckets in and get the most.

let us know what you decide in.. all the best

I went with perlite and vermiculite. Just finished planting the clones an hour ago. I decided to do it the traditional way first, then experiment with coco later. I'll probably go coco in my cfl vert cab eventually.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. :tiphat:

If you use coco, read the Coco Hempy thread... Don't forget to put perlite in the bottom of the bucket up to the rez hole either if your gonna use coco. Happy toKin'!!

Hi guys been awhile. Into my 2mnd hempy grow. started from seed from a Purple Kush I let get some light and she seeded up/ Made lemon ade outta my lemons but have a little problem. My biggest plants are getting a little color on some of the edges. There are only a couple of weeks difference in the ages of my ladies and I'm gunna put em all in flowering at the same time. The smaller plants are Kush and some Bubble Gum and 1 Loco Crash lady in the bunch. I'm growin in coco with perilite on the bottom feeding FroraNova. Any suggestions bout the yellowin would be appriciated...

Is it only near the fan that you see the damage because it looks like wind damage to me. And I think you should be feeding more. It looks like coco and if it is I think you should be watering everyday. Check out the blumat thread for some automated easy growing. I do straight coco in 3 gallon smart pots running GH nutes at 6/9 with one blumat per pot and it rocks the casbah.

Hey Seedlin. Ive got a couple coco Hempy plants going along with the traditional perlite and vermiculite mix. One of the coco plants was a bit light in color, looking for some extra nitrogen. She greened up nicely within two-three days with a foliar spray of Floralicious + and a slight increase in nutes.

I am wading thru this thread page by page. I'm on page 100 now... he thread was almost ruined by some ass that could't talk without being a sanctamonious prick. I hate when a thread gets poluted by a closed minded sh*thead like that. I'm getting ready to do a couple experimental Hempys with pure Perlite and using the Lucas formula. One is going to be a 3 gallon bucket with a single plant. The other will be a 15 gallon tote with 2 plants and a scrog screen over them that will be approximately 18" x 24". For the past couple years I've been using coco in airpots and H&G nutes. Well, back to page 100... seems like Mr. Poopiepants has been banned and is fading fast.

What's up Mr seedling long time no see. I've been through about 4 or 5 perpetual grows since I've seen you last. I to have started doing Coco hempys as well. I even created a couple deep water aero culture tubs is what I like to call them. Anyways I am using the kiss formula on the Coco and doing drain to waste drippers. I saw an immediate difference that the coconut groves much faster but one key thing is that you have to water daily. Whether the cocoa looks dry or not from my experience if you get fresh aerified water in the reservoir everyday these Coco grow like freaking weeds

I admit I haven't read the entire thread, but - has anyone here used a rubbermaid tub or something similar with a hole drilled in it like a hempy with a bunch of clones packed in? Hempy tub instead of bucket.

You will find earthbox is basically the same thing. I have a few...but I use them outdoors for veggies...as they are not as easy to move from veg room to flower room. The same concept though. Works well.

I can see the upside to using a hempy tub- only gotta water one container. But the biggest downside to that kind of arrangement is, if you got one sick plant, then you got a whole tub full. Something to think about.

@overmyhead: I ran some 25g tubs a few years back and had average results...the tubs worked best for me when I used them as a home for four mothers.

...hydroton, grorocks, lavarock, 3/4 inch gravel or even coco chunks will do, it just has to have different moisture retention properties, ...with just straight coco all the way to the bottom you end up with soggy plants that suffer from wet feet syndrome.

...i personally like the grorocks, they work like a charm and, because coco is so light, the rocks give some weight to the pots, with perlite in the bottom they can get pretty top heavy toward the end of the cycle.

...and Maynard, i'd strongly suggest you include at least one coco hempy in your experiments, believe me, you'll like the results.

I'm new to the board. I've done a few years of hempy growing, first verm/perlite mix, then coco/perlite mix.

Recently I did a side by side comparison with 60/40 coco/perlite mix compared to a straight perlite and straight coco hempy bucket with perlite reservoir. So far I see no differences in growth. Anyone else experience this? If there is a difference, it is very little. I'm half way through flowering and they all seem about the same. I'm using the same strain, same size cutting, same nutrients, everything close as possible.

Interesting. Running 100% perlite right now. I'd add in some coco if the benefits were there. :pie:

Greetings all

Greetings all

I'm planning on growing with the Hempy method, including LSTing, SCROG, and I'm growing with a 200W LED 'Dirt Genius' grow light for veg and flowering with some LED and CFL supplemental lights. Here is a pic from Day 10 from seed of the Aurora Indica from Nirvana. I will be using General Hydroponics with the Lucas Formula system when they are strong enough to feed. Just water and a dash of superthrive for now..

I've read along threads that say these crystals are due to overwatering? But all I do is spray.. So idk any input?

And also just wondering if any EXPERIENCED Hempy Buckets growers can give a noob some advice?? I haven't really gotten any.
What size buckets did you use? 3-5 gallons?
What nutes did you use?
Lights?
Strain and how long did it take to Veg x Flower x Harvest?
Yield?
ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers. :ying:
