What OH green harvest trying to sneak up on you? And you rock pot is way better then mine. Your weather too. My green house will save my ass. My two outside are pushing 7 and 8 ft.

Hey OH. It's all looking great. If you get bored, you could pull up another episode of "The Wayback Machine". I really enjoy hearing stories of yesteryear on Maui and you had a nice build up going on.

The longest day of the year.

It's all downhill from here. It'll probably take a while, but this is what we are heading towards....flowers.

Shows you what I know...GH is here.

This is the end of Hawaii's fiscal year.... my bet is they had some funds left over and they had to use or lose. Like the idiot I am, Grey gave me the warning, but I didn't think it was on....so we had to rely on luck... and camoflage to get us thru.

I don't believe they missed me. But they did. If you fly over this property from the North or West and you see nothing. Long ago I planted trees on those sides. As they approach they can't see anything until they are directly overhead....then they would have to look behind the chopper or turn the bird around.

Come in from the South or East and you see it all.

They came in from the North. I had just started to wash the dogs....so my hands were soapy when I did the plant toss after they popped up. Not fun. Plants and dirt and pots scattered across the deck in every direction except the one I wanted them to go. Then, before they come back, we had to haul ass to the garden and chop the plants that were gonna go this weekend.

Big Island. Bet you're gonna get hit next week.

OK...

Warning delivered...what next?

Am I properly medicated?

Yea....Fuck it...

Storytime? Well? Why not.

Call this one....

Learning to Fly.

"What? We gonna do this?"

It always starts out the same way. The call from my partner. He had just got off work. It's time to Harvest. That's with a capital H.

Three months before we changed transport. The truck had been seen once or twice the months before. No chases, just spotted across a barren field, or glimsed in front of a line of dust going up or down the hill.

We had moved to the quad out of necessity. It was a lot faster than the truck. The LT 500 was at the time the fastest thing out there. Horrible offroad, in the weeds, it was perfectly suited for the wide dirt roads of the canefields. It could easily haul me, my partner, and all the stuff that came with us, up the hill.

And I was scared shitless of it.

After you plant, and male, and male again, you break back the cane one last time, and let the plants run for the final three months unvisited. Harvest is a date on the calander. You find out weather or not it was all worth it then.

It was time. Back to Lahina, after a long break. My partner works for the State, and he had a drug test comming up. I had no such work, thus no test, and could smoke as much pot as I wanted to.

Sooo...we gotta stop at the Minit Stop for a six pack of Stineies before we even start out that way. It was Harvest... both of us were on pins and needles the whole way out. Me smoking joints, him sucking down beers.

Get there a little after 4. We have 3 1/2 hours to do this trip. Four patches to harvest. He looks at me and says "Your driving"

OK....

Now it's not like I never drove this before. I have.

It's just that I never had anyone sitting behind me... drunk... coaching me as I flew over shit I had no business flying over. At a way faster pace than I was used to.

So off we go. He drops me off and heads down to where we stash the truck. I go pick him up... and we're off.

All the way up the hill it's "throttle, go, faster, come on, no scared, go, throttle, no worry, go, come on, here's a jump' NO DON"T SLOW DOWN THE THROTTLE IS YOUR FRIEND, don't touch the breakes, go, no scared....and on and on....

After I hit the first jump...and landed the right way, the rest was easy. It turns out the throttle is your friend. Going up was easy. Every 200 ft of so was a berm across the road to channel rainwater off the road. Or hit at fourty we caught some serious air, but going up the hill, the road came back up to you....so the landing wasn't as hard as you thought it was gonna be.

This is fun! I can fly!

So I fly up the hill the voice behind me stills with fewer and fewer comments. Guess I'm doing ok....

Get to the top, take a right, another right, start down the hill, count the standpipes until we reach the right one, as I pass my partner bails off the quad, I go back up the hill and wait.

The way we did this was one of us works, the other one sits up on top of the hill overlooking. This way if the guy in the field hears the quad start, he knows that company is calling. The guy on the quad can sneak away, or make a scene to lure the company away. It ain't like we had cell phones back then.

Twenty minutes later partner pops out of the field...duffelbags full. Pick him up and right down the road to the next one. Same routine. Then one road over we do it again. By this time we had both duffels packed and four garbage bags full.

When we get to the final patch we have a half hour of daylight left. Partner tells me " Hope this one is there, I put a golf course in." What's a golf course? Eighteen holes all in a line...like a single giant patch. When this was planted it was the last one done that day. He was tired and got lazy....slammed everything leftover in one big patch. Usually these get found...but when they pay off it pays off big.

He goes in, I wait. Then I see him pop out early. I think the're gone, head down to pick him up.

He says "You gotta see this."

OK...head in about fourty feet and there it is. A line of eighteen holes, Two plants per hole, all about ten feet tall...maybe 35 plants in all. Looking down that row all you saw was buds. He starts one side, me the other, and we harvest....pulling brances off stems and stuffing then into trash bags, get done, haul ass to the quad....

Where we gonna put all this shit?

Get the bungee and start bungeeing the bags to us and the quad. Stuff 'em in there, between us, straighten them out later, it's almost dark, I'm still driving, and the voice in back begins again. "Go, no brakes, the throttle is your friend, no scared..."

So the throttle is my friend huh?

Fly out to the main road, point it downhill and peg 'em.

Hit the first berm...

OH FUCK...

Look downnnn....I'm about 20 feet up in the air, and instead of comming toward me like when I was heading up, the road falls away from me as we head down.

Time stops.

I can see it now.

They'll find us in the morning, bags of buds scattered all over the place.

The Maui News will read...."Two Killed in Canefield Mishap".

Naturally, they would have a picture with the two bent and broken forms under blankets, pieces of the quad scattered around. Gouges in the road as the quad rolled, marked out for the investigation.

Shit, my parents will be pissed off.

We came down hard. Blew the back shock. Bags of buds made an ok airbag...trimmings gonna be a bitch. But I kept it going straight.

Know what?

The throttle was my friend.

Since it was dark, we limped the quad back to the truck and loaded it up there. All the stinky buds, we just stuffed under the quad and headed home.

Story ain't done yet.

Comming back to our side of the island we got stopped at every traffic light. Sitting in traffic, waiting while everyone looked at us and smelled the aroma of sucess was nervewracking. Thank God there were no cops on the road that night.

The Maui News would have read like this. "Two Busted With Pounds"

End of story. Back home, you didn't even notice the Wayback Machine.

Lightweight...ya got your wish.

DB...GH is always trying to sneak up on me. Yesterday they got close. Look for them your way next week.

See Weez...Distrust is your friend.

Chunky...there is always money to fly around in the choppers. Fuck the kids, fuck the teachers, we got the cash for GH.

Veg. If I had as many as you I'd use the netting. But I've found plants under the netting do mold faster.

Oh Shit.

GH is here. This time they came in from the South and they got an eyefull.

Wonder if I'm gonna get a visit?

Gotta put this to bed....typos and all....it may get busy.

Well?

What happened?

Did they bug you last week? Show up to take a peek?

The answer is no. They flew, and I'm sure they saw into the gulch, but they didn't bother to come around in person.

Too bad. I'm at my limit, but there are only six clones in flower, scheduled to take next month. Another seven were put in a couple of weeks back, they're scheduled to be pulled early August. A copy of everything saved has been rooted. The big plants from seed won't begin to flower for at least another six weeks. If I did this correctly... and the jury's still out on that....there should be very little overlap. As soon as GH is done, the next wave should be ready to plant.

Hope this works...

I'm sure we'll see the choppers again next month too. If past history is any guide, GH will do their walk thru mid August. The deadline to put any clones in has come and gone, and the cloner has been shut down for the next three weeks. This is all part of preperation for when they do the walk thru. When GH shows, we don't want to have any refugee plants sitting around to confuse them.

Other than obcessing over that, what else is going on?

It looks like the big plants are pulling toward the Blood side. Mom has one look and shape, dad has totally different Thai look and shape, and I was curious to see which way they would go...all, except one, are pulling toward mom.

I hope the flowers pull that way too. This is mom.

Last Tuesday we had a nice rain. Almost an inch, it rained from noon to midnight. All the plants are tied up in their frames, the wind and rain came just in time for the first test of when the branches get heavy. When I went out Wensday morning everything was tight and in place. Not a single stem out of place.

So, were still in cruse control. Weather's perfect, everything's good.

For now.

Wow... I was in the islands for a while... did a few rounds, never saw full season plants like that :D.... I moved to CA so I could grow the large ones without worrying about GH. When I was there we had the same idea about growing large plants and using the 'making pure concentrates out of tops' excuse to maybe bypass the 1 oz limit. Did you ever get a chance to try that? Very curious. If you haven't, may you never.

CA bud is amazing.. it is... but, Hawaii bud is magic. Properly done Hawaiian outdoor looks and smokes better than flowers grown in a highly sophisticated indoor grow room. It's just a fact.... And with all the different microclimates you can enjoy different types of results.... plants grown in Kula or Olinda won't look the same as Haiku herb. Thanks for posting this, Aloha!

Not looking for secrets, but are there any changes in strategy with the passage of House Bills 642 and 668? I know the extra ounce of dried is anal considering that one branch will put you over limit...but how's that upped plant limit going to work for y'all? Are you having to dig more holes, or do you have some old ones hangin' around doin' nothing?

Our Governor just signed new MMJ law here in Nevada. Seems some normally legitimate doctors were selling "Plant Limit Waivers" (come to find-out...there was no such thing) and the State is supposedly trying to stop that practice without busting the doctors. My waiver cost me an extra $150.00 (per year) for a useless document saying my limit was 99 plants because I make extractions. Who woulda thought the doc's would, as licensed caregivers, screw the patients in such a felonious manner...? Folks were getting busted and presenting those waivers to the judges as a "get out of jail free card". Anyway, we went from 3 in flower, to a dozen. But if growing indoors...all you need to change is everything. More lights, more venting, bigger A/C, more soil, perhaps a carbon filter or dryer sheets...perhaps an extra guard dog or two...

Speaking of guard dogs, how's your pig dogs doing? Haven't heard much from them lately.

Well this is some bullshit right here.....

Shit....

Can't do another 'offered without comment' post.

Well, I could, but that would be rude.

Anyway....Where are we?

We are at the "oh shit" point. Everytime I wander down to the gulch I say "Oh shit". These are getting kinda big.

I am gonna have a hard time explaining to the cops that these plants will only yield an oz each. I doubt they'll believe me.

OH well....

picture.php

For the record. Two of the plants are ten feet tall. No signs of flower yet. The other two...more like eight. One's about seven, and the last is six. To be honest, if i gotta crank my neck back I don't know exactly how big they really are.

What seems to be doing better than normal is the clones. Here's a couple of Skunkdogs. Next up is like six of them.

picture.php

I'd guess it'll yield about eight ozs. The same strain grown over winter would go three max. Gives you the difference between seasons. Same thing with the Daywrecker. Seldom met a clone that is so all over the place. The more light she gets, the better she does. Somewhere back in this log I have a pic of her done early in the year and she looks nothing like this plant.

picture.php

To give you an idea of the jump, plant on the left is a Skunkdog clone just planted. The plant on the right, another Skunkdog, has just started to flower. She has been in for a month and is almost done with her growth spurt so she won't get much bigger. It's all flowers from here.

Casper, Canni....TYVM.

Dirtboy... That's the only way...keep your holes full.

furrywall...Yea, I've used that excuse for a couple of years running. Outdoors nothing is guaranteed. That excuse seems to work too. Because it's true. A week of rain at the wrong time those plants will yield nothing.

Casper...relax. They aren't here....I think. I haven't seen them.
Dirtboy says they are over there. Either way I'm not over my numbers and I can't move anything even if I wanted to.

Rusty....Nice scam the docs have going there. The new rules won't go into effect here until 2015. Like you, I suppose the end result will be more product on the market, here or there. Another year like the first one could be done. Twentyone trees. I think a lot of people will go that way. Grow quanity and dump it cheap.

The clones are popular...and I'd be quite happy having only them around. Forget trees....Twentyone clones every two months. And I'd like to not worry about having an extra plant of two in bud.

That would work for me.

The mutts? Got a few new ones. The pack was getting elderly....hell, they are elderly....just like their boss. This time instead of finding them on the side of the road, I went out and picked 'em out. Here's one of them. Now if I could only find someone to make a grab for the plants...we could see if they work.
