Bubba Kush about 3 tall. Thought gopher at first, but could not find any tunnel. Maybe ants, but all other life (worms, etc.) in the holes are ok. The only odd thing is we found two beetles in the hole. One was beside the root ball and the other was just in there somewhere. The grid behind the beetle are 1/4" squares.

i get rats that do that sort of damage and have had to resort to placing traps after losing a heap of plants over the years...

Yeah, stem rot is what it is. Thanks, it has been so long since I have seen it. I automatically think pest(s). I always have problems with ants and gophers. My job as an electronic tech. has me repairing plenty of wiring/cabling chewed on by mice, rats, and/or squirrels. I should have noticed it was having a problem when I transplanted it 6 weeks ago. I have three plants in pots that are 3-4 feet ea. waiting to take the BK's place. I think I will juice the leaves and dry the stem.
