appears he wanted to lose

he is set for life, and he still has 10 fights left on his contract

now that he isn't the champ, I see him training for super fights

Wow....

Glad I'm not a betting man! I would've lost on Silva, although all the other times would've made up for it.

Did not expect that, it's a pity Anderson didn't see him as more of a striking threat and take it seriously. All credit to Weidman though. Silva was so off balance when he took that shot, it would knock anyone out.

I think Anderson got bored

7 damn years of kicking everyone's ass just might get old

Wow! I am happy for Weidman but Silva lost this fight more than Weidman won it.

I think Weidman could have won it on ground and pound too. Silva enjoys clowning and this time he got clowned. hehe

At some point Silva slows a little with age, this might have been a sign of that.

I guess Weidman can move out of his parents basement now? Been stuck there since his house was flooded.

Yes, Anderson didn't seem too unhappy that he lost....

He probably wanted to win, but wasn't really fussed?

I think now Jones doesn't have an excuse for not fighting him, as Silva doesn't want a belt. :)

Some commenters on other sites are saying this was a dive, cause Silva pretended to be knocked silly by the first glancing blow from Weidman, before Weidman unleashed the flurry that knocked him out.
I dont think so. I think Weidman got a couple good shots in the first round on Silva, when he had Silva on the ground. In Silva's full guard, Weidman couldn't do much damage, the Spider's bjj is too good. But a few times he stood up over Silva, and while that exposed him to some dangerous kicks, he also had the leverage to land some power right hands to Silva's face. I think one or two of those connected enough to rock his world, and after that Silva wasn't the same, didn't or couldn't keep his hands up once he got back to his feet.
Relying on your superior speed and technique doesnt work so well when you're slightly stunned, and credit to Weidman, he stayed patient with his stand up, despite Silva egging him on.
Weidman had a good game plan going in, and knew he'd get his opportunities if he could avoid Silva's precision striking. He was younger, just as athletic as Silva, and just as big and strong, a middleweight with a light heavywt build. Almost every other middleweight Silva has a size/strength advantage over on fight night, but not Weidman.

Maybe Silva goes hard after a St. Pierre superfight at a catchweight, maybe st pierre looks at this and thinks this is a good game plan to defeat the Spider; hes certainly more accomplished at both wrestling and standup than weidman. In fact, Georges specializes in the take them down and tire them out gnp, perfected to the point where now it seems he can't finish anyone. But it's the size and strength factor that bothers St pierre though, as well it should, but at 175 or 177 maybe he'll man up and do it, if only for the money, if that cheap bastard Dana White lets them get a bigger share of that purse.

If Silva fought Weidman again, despite saying he doesn't want to fight for the title anymore, I'd give him a 50/50 chance in a rematch. He's not going to clown with Weidman anymore if they fought again, and if he can keep damage from the gnp to a minimum he's still clearly a better striker than Weidman.

Btw, I thought Silva was very humble and gracious with his words tonite. Very complimentary to the new champion. Do i think he's a quitter because he said he doesn't want to fight for the belt anymore? I think those words were said in the immediate aftermath of crushing disappointment. He truly wanted a rest from the pressure of defending the title for 14 fights over 6-7 (?) years, he's almost 40 so he doesn't recover from training and injuries like he used to. So he'll probably take a year off, spend time with his family, regroup and reassess and then get back to training and kicking more ass. He's got what, 9 fights left he's got to give the ufc, and you can be sure if he's the spider of old there's gonna be a title shot or two in there.

What a really weird turn of events this UFC has been, I have to agree with Bababooey, Silva wasn't fazed in the slightest about losing and apparently doesn't give 2 fracks about having a re-match.
I think the spider has lost the drive to keep dominating the MW division for over 7 years now and he is just burnt out. But regardless of him not being champion anymore, he will always be my favourite UFC Mixed Martial Arts Fighter and I will always pick him over any other fighter :good:
On the quiet side of things I'm so glad I didn't bet with anyone as I'd be crying right about now :bigeye:
Just about finished downloading the whole event off the interwebz and will sit back with my missus and watch it all over again.
:smoke out:

How can people watch a fight and not see what happened? Every blog, comment section after every article and forum everywhere has not mentioned the very first controversial thing that happened. Even Joe Rogan did not comment. ????? Silva spit on Weidman in the center of the ring during an attempted handshake. Weidman sticks out his hand to shake and Silva leaned over and spit on his hand. You could see the lips purse and move and a spray come out. Most of it went on the ref. Look at a replay. Then all Rogan says is "They are gonna shake... OH I guess not". Like Silva was just refusing to shake. He spit on him. Somebody that recorded it please post it or comment. I am not crazy.

Then Silva got rocked during the early ground and pound. He did fight off some takedown attempts after he got up but he never toyed with Weidman like the writers are saying. He never connected with anything. He kept trying to goad Weidman into being overaggressive and getting lucky with a kick to Weidman's face (which all missed). I don't think Silva every landed a clean punch or kick.

In the second round when the finishing scene first started, Weidman caught Silva with a left and it did hurt him enough that Silva started pretending it wobbled him. That was just to mask the fact that it did hurt him. Then he did his limbo dance move where he leans way back to avoid punches and moves his body in an arc. Other fighters always seem to miss his face when he does this. Weidman did miss a couple of times but when Silva got to the end of the arc on Weidman's left side he met Weidman's left hook and the lights went out.

Silva did not lose this fight. Weidman kicked his ass. Silva did not score one clean hit on Weidman during this brief fight.

Now Belfort and Munoz need to fight and the winner gets Silva and the loser gets Bisping. Weidman gets to relax for a bit or gets an easy fight while things marinate in the division.
