Is there such a thing as a "good" Blueberry?

I had a cut of Blueberry a couple years ago (from a dispensary, so I don't know it's origins or even if it was actually blueberry, as I have found that a lot of dispensaries are more concerned about hype than actual strain lineage or origins or accurate information) which had a respectable yield, and PHENOMENAL smell and taste.. The caveat was that it was a total pain in the arse to clone and grew with absolutely no urgency when in veg. I still miss that smoke...
I, too, would love for Blueberry to be worked into a more complete specimen. I'll keep wishing...

Although I have little experience with BB, it seems as though she's a finicky mother f..ker. It appears that if she's grown in the wrong setup or it may even be the time she is grown the BB will not express herself properly. I have tested strains similar to this and although it is a disappointment I don't think it is always fair to blame the breeder. Especially when talking of BB or BB crosses...

I find that BB, grows best at half nutrient strengths. She does get some dark leaf and leaf curl if given normal strength. DJ says they were bred this way, but even his pics look over fed.

Why is it that the most widely passed and grown Blueberry out there is Blue Dream a blueberry cross?

If Blueberry was so badass wouldn't there be more than just Blue Dream flooding the area?

There are so many elite cuts out and about in California... But none are Blueberry... Why?

DJ Shorts own Blueberry cut he released isn't an elite cut...

I have only seen one badass blueberry... Dabney's Blueberry... And I doubt DJ Short had anything to do with that plant.

:ying:

first its very inbred,, thats why it shines in outcrosses..

second if you grow so called "elite" cuts, it doesnt make you elite grower... average growers has problem to grow blueberry genetics.. cause its so special you have to learn to grow it.. its nto just growing it, its meditation.. those growing for profit have no time for it.. its luxury genetics.. i clearly see that for example "elite" grower like Mr. Dank has no problem to grow dj shorts bb and enjoy it.. while he has also those elite cuts in stable..

i grew otm local cut, its dj short´s blueberry F5, it can stand next to ecsd no prob.. i think its even better.. private stash, not commercial...

people, dont believe the HYPE

Grew 2 girls of Esko's blue santa. One tasted and smelled of blueberry and the other was a huge foxtailing monster yielder that was a fantastic smoke but smelled nutty. The one that favored the blueberry was also quite potent for a BB, as was her sister that was nutty. I can not recommend it more because 2 out of the 3 girls I grew were in the top 5 plants I've grown from seed in the past 6 years.

Blue Meanie
This is one good reason why I never get upset that cult cuts like the Kush family and Sour Diesel aren't around in England much - we have our own devastating strains here.

I often mention my 'Mystery Strain'...so-called as no-one knows for sure exactly what it is, but it's old-school funk. It has a local nickname, but I'll refrain from using that for fear of upsetting folks - and starting a SoCal-style bunfight over here! Anyway, this is 'Blue Meanie' - a cross of the Mystery Strain with Blueberry. I have no details on parentage, but it's very likely that Blueberry was the male, as the MS is a clone-only strain (not for long - watch this space!).

This smells similar to the MS, but with an extra sickly-sweet component - this is totally dank, totally fine weed. It has a very balanced 50/50 high, pulsatingly strong, with a long duration. The Blueberry seems mostly to add to the flavour, as the high is similar to the original, but this is top-notch, and as good as anything I've ever smoked in the US. The nugs are rock-hard and encrusted in resin, and the smell is gorgeous. Each of these weighs around 4-5 g.

That was the same thing said about OG Kush, Bubba Kush, Haze, and so many others that seem to stand the test of time... But not Blueberry... Odd when you think about it. :ying:

just grew out a bunch of blue heron from dynasty seeds, good stuff overall, very short stocky densely noded indica style plant, needs pruning & thinning & it forms nice dense thick & hard buds some of the most trichrome-y buds in my room last run
but
as for being a "blue"
none of my phenos were particularly blue smelling or tasting... very complex smell & flavors that all seem along the same lines from pheno to pheno
except one, that is very rosey and enjoyable beyond the rest, a recessive i guess
i guess im looking for recessives to find that "blue" in there.......

Ive had several blueberry phenotypes that had the distinct blueberry aroma.. but to be honest none were keeper quality.. seems difficult to find a bb pheno thats got great structure, bag appeal, high, etc. lemons on the other hand, those are easy to find :D

i am a little dissapointed that so many people don't like this strain, ive been meaning to try dj shorts blueberry for years...

not because i wanted some crazy high or blue buds, or blueberry flavor...i have heard many many people describe the taste as "exactly like a mouthful of skittles"...

as far as i can tell that would be the best flavor out there in my opinion...i mean i just got a c99 from a friend that has a nice juicy fruit gum flavor but skittles it a flavor i've always wanted...maybe i'll try to find a nice blueberry male, and cross it with my new White s1's, see if i can't get something skittles tasting, but a bit more potent...wonder if Raskal has ever thought of doing that cross, since he seems to specialize in the white crosses lately...

I think a good blueberry was always a several pack search. It takes some exploring to find the pheno's that are "worthy". Once in awhile someone finds a keeper in a single pack. In all honesty, if you make a BB cross, it's going to take more than 10 plants to see what you made!

Blueberry muffin pheno's are the best, comes across in a cross here and there. But to get all the good characteristics, can be very difficult if you don't have a huge grow.

I have a blueberry cut that leans mostly sativa. It is intensely blueberry-flavored and has scary-strong potency and great resin. Stinks the whole house up when you open the jar. I consider it to be a total winner.

pretty much every seed line is gonna take more then 1-2 packs to find something truly special sure you can hit the jackpot and have a perfect plant in your first 10 pack but its not likely.

I'm surprised no one mentioned sweet tooth and sweet tooth crosses. Sweet tooth is (blueberry x sweet pink grapefruit)...sweetest Cindy from DGS is sweet and blueberry smelling, basically just sweet tasting, powerful as a Cindy can be!
I back crossed my sweetest Cindy keeper to sotf's sweet tooth 4, and one pheno is dark, frosty, and very very blueberry smelling, just starting to add a funky sour edge at five weeks.
These are super easy, ver vigorous plants to grow, exceptionally stable, bred for Swiss production originally. Isn't that kind of what you are looking for?

I should add, I've smoked blueberry from a coffee shop in Amsterdam circa 2007, it was medium strength hybrid weed with a nice taste. That's basically how it was described by the bud tender too. I don't believe that gene pool contains elite quality strength, even if it wasn't obviously in bred into the ground in the past decade. Hype hype hype, and now its just inflamed by keepers being so damn hard to find. It's a fools errand to buy dj s blueberry packs, anyone getting 50 out of 50 seeds germinating got ripped off and sold something else, f2s if you're lucky.
There are blueberry smelling and tasting strains out there no doubt...
I've had nor cal Dabney, and it fits the bill of being a blueberry/almost strawberry smelling and tasting purple turning medium-high strength bud. But not strong enough for me!
Try the sweetest Cindy, or try making some sweet tooth f2s and select for blue, shouldn't be too hard...
Ive also got bodhis blueberry hill (heirloom dj short blueberry x appy)in the fridge, maybe the blue grail is in there?
