* All bulbs are produced at the same factories. It does not matter what brand or make. There are a limited number of factories making HID bulbs. Unless you bulb is made in North America, then it's made at the exact same factories, using the exact same parts, by the exact same people making the ones shipping free with light kits.

There is no guarantee of exact same parts when getting different brands from the same factory.

If you've worked in the mfg industry you'd be aware that each customer has their own specification. The parts may be exactly the same, except the gas/elements in the arc-tube are different. Even different arc-tubes and glass thickness/mfg can be used.

Cheaper solder... shorter annealing times... cheaper steel/metal parts, made on the same machines as their stronger, more expensive brothers?

There are literally thousands of different ways a company can save money on their product... while having it mfg in the same plant as other products of the same sort, on the same machinery, by the same people.

I'll post...last grow over winter...3x3x6 Secret Jardin DR90II with vertical bare bulb 400w magnetic ballast HPS (that's over 8 y/o)...random bagseed from various pounds a buddy was getting/selling...five females out of 15 seeds started and kept (all very different)...GH FloraMicro & GH FloraBloom @ 8ml/16ml per gallon of h2o...FFOF,3gallon pots....10 ounces of solid nugg and 2 ounces of larf/fluffernuffer (due to plants getting too tall for the light spread of a vertical 400w HID)....not bad at all for my first vertical grow...still beat my best horizontal with known genetics in similar sized space and same wattage.

I use a Eye Hortilux super 400hps bulb in a 2.5'x5'x5' tent. It works great for scrog and I get 18"+ penetration through thick foliage, much better than my previous cheap bulb and worth the extra $$, imo.

I like being able to get close to the canopy.

I haven't had time to read this entire thread so Im sorry if this has been answered. What would you say the average footprint of a 400 watt is? I know it will vary a little with different hoods and setups but just an average. And how close do you keep your lights? I know this will vary also depending on setups. Thanks

Optimum would be in the 6 sq ft range. Giving 66.6 w/sq ft. Mine is 3'6" x 3'8" or 13 sq ft - that's only about 30 w/sq ft. I shuffle and turn a lot.

Not sure what average is, but i've pulled 315g, 336g, and 285g , in my 3 400w attempts in a 3' x 3' with a generic bulb.

Fukndenny... Grows getting heavier as bulbs get weaker... Personally I buy a lot of cheep stuff because I got better things to spend money on and it all works just fine. Plus, when it does break I don't go broke...

Had it from the jump, so I can not talk numbers but I'm 100% sure it has increased my harvest. Plus you can get the light closer without burning the plant, In the photos you can see I had no more room left to lift the light so if it was stationary it would of fried the plant...

1st run was 4 plants, 2nd run 5 plants, 3rd run 1 single monster scrog.

Hi all, this is my second run with 400W hps bulb on an 80x50 cm space, i choose The Ultimate from DP for this run and do some LST on only two plants in 16lt pots on soil with Plagron nutriments.

Theese last pics are day 62 from seed and day 29 of 12/12

I will update near harvest time, regards from north italy to all 400W growers...
