Kind of a random question! How many people use filters over roaches in their joints/spliffs? I'm a spliff smoker myself and don't want to consume too much unfiltered tobacco. Personally I haven't found it makes much difference to the high but I'm interested to hear what others think! :tiphat:

Are we talking about rolled up bits of cardboard filters or cigarette style filters?

Rolled up cardboard - always.

Cig style - gross.

Filters don't stop enough of what's in tobacco smoke to make a significant difference. They just keep tobacco out of your mouth.

For cannabis, I smoke it pure, American style, either in a pipe or in joints, my fave. When it gets short, I use a roach clip to get that last little bit of get high goodness. Smoking a roach is an art form I learned in the 60's...

carbon filters like the ones used in pipes have become popular for joints. personally i don't particularly like them. i think they filter out quite a bit of the high. on the other hand the joint is very smooth smoking (but looks weird thanks to the fat filter in there).

I was referring to carbon filters though personally I use both as I tend to roll quite long and like to have a decent mouthpiece. I was very against the idea for a long time but finally got fed up with that horrible sticky feeling that unfiltered tobacco smoke tends to leave in your chest.

I can understand considerations about it taking out some of the high but I haven't really found this to be the case. That's just my experience anyway. Cannabis is quite expensive in my area and I was a long time cig. smoker before coming over to the green side so frankly it's more of satisfying the habit and not wanting to roll £10 joints in my case...

i dislike the carbon tips, they filter out to much of the flavour -> nogo. smooth smoke is assured with the carbon tips, but the flava get kinda bland...

I gave up smoking tobacco 15+ years back. So when I smoke my canna I do it neat. Be it in joint, hash-pipe, one hitter or bong.

True the taste lacks a bit but I have a vape for when I want flavor :3
Never had the pleasure of using a vape. How much difference from the taste of a joint(pure canna)?
Being a poor(ish) older biker never had the funds to invest in one. Them Harley parts are expensive.

That's what I referenced as American style earlier. I've never known Americans to mix cannabis with tobacco, other than as an experiment, although it's apparently been the European fashion for a very long time. I suspect that tobacco would enhance the effect of a stony indica, probably blunt the effect of a racy sativa.

Somehow, sharing a joint seems like a more intimate experience than other methods, having a certain etiquette & style that makes participants more involved & closer. Sharing with some ease & grace has always been a valuable trait in people, and there's no better time to look for it than when toking.

Yeah I do love my vape, it goes very well with a bong! The taste is much fuller and closer to the actual smell I find. You can get some fairly cheap ones but it's the kind of thing where you want to at least invest in a mid-range so you know it works properly and hits well :p

@Jhhnn - I don't really come across many people (besides growers, even then not nearly common-place) who smoke pure canna joints in the UK. I'm not really sure what the reason is, ostensibly it's because it's expensive ($16+ per gram really) but even then, it's not too bad. Maybe it's just the cultural differences between tobacco smoking? It's pretty socially acceptable here whilst I hear in the US it's kind of frowned upon.

What vape do you have? A friend has been talking about picking one up so we're trying to learn. Thanks.

Sorry if this is getting too off topic. PM if you prefer.

I've never had tobacco mixed in my j. I'm not a smoker so a couple puffs on a cig get my head spinning for awhile. Not sure how that'd mix with mj. USA, btw.

I think it's a heritage kind of thing, cultural. Before the Dutch started growing, most European stoners smoked imported hash, and mixing it with tobacco was a convenient means of transport & consumption. Here in the US, hash has always been a rarity, with imported Mexican & Colombian cannabis coming in bud form & being relatively cheap back in the 60's & 70's. There wasn't any reason to blend it with tobacco because it could just be conveniently carried & smoked as joints. Hell, according to my long dead great aunt, Americans were smoking joints back in the 1920's.

Try it some time when you're flush, preferably with something really yummy. You'll like it. Joints are gererally rolled thin, ~1/4" or slightly larger to get the best even combustion. It's an art to roll a fattie that burns right, without running.

Never tried a vape, but I'm sure I'll get around to it...

As a European I prefer mine joints with a bit of tobacco it's what I know and love.
But I definitely see the point that tobacco is bad and is just for us addicts. I even have a volcano but I like my smoke so it just stands around
