I found them in my res water, first indication that something was not right was my ph started to slowly fall, roots look ok, plants seem to grow ok. Have upped the amount of DM Zone to 9 ml in my 5 gal bubbler. I was able to suck this worm up through the hypodermic needle thats how small they ar e.

Things seem to have got worse, plants are now 5 weeks old and seemed to have stopped growing, I had a look at the roots, they were brown so I pulled a few off to examine. There were quite a few of these worms on the roots, I had to use a loupe to see them and some of them are truly minute, you cant see with the naked eye. How they manage to stay attached to the roots is beyond me as I have a lot of air bubbling through the roots. I have a friend who is an insect expert, I'll give him some to ID for me.

The verdict is nematodes, possibly root lesion nematode. Doesn't seem like theres much I can do. Ive ordered some neem oil, if that doesn't work then I'll rip the plants out, sterilise my clay pebbles in the oven and start over :(

i found this:
Neem Oil as an Organic Nematicide
Neem oil, an extract of neem (Azadirachta Indica) is an organic mineral that contains fundamental constituent of pesticide as well as insecticide called Azadirachtin. Researchers believe that Neem oil when used as a soil drench can control the population of nematodes effectively than other synthetic and organic nematicides. Moreover, neem oil is bio-degradable and it does not harm the plant life anyway. Other techniques of neem oil application for nematicidal effect will include neem oil fertilizer, root dip treatment and seed treatment with neem oil. By-products of neem oil such as pellets and cakes can also be vitally used in the crushed state near the infested plant for controlling the further infestation of nematodes.

a quick search found that neem oil is effective against nematodes. neem cake/meal in the soil will stop them from reappearing

good luck
