The fastest way to get Kief - $100 Kief Machine!

Okay so what I tried failed, but only because it was the wrong size.

My idea is to get a plastic frisbee, flip it upside down and cut out the middle to keep the kief contained on the screen.

If anyone can find/post up a link to an 11" frisbee I will rep you!!!!

How is getting the bucket to spin, then add some epoxy resin to the edges?

Centrifugal powers would slam the resin 'funnel shaped' to the side and cover the non-perforated edges?

Good thread, but would I be right in saying it should be moved from the Concentrates to the Hashish forum?

Thanks! And yeah probably. Sorry about that I am new to posting on icmag, I just lurked for a while but never in the concentrates section.

There is likely a separate belt spinning the bucket on the tumbler, have you tried opening it up? Maybe you can just cut or disconnect that and keep the tumbling going.

this is really cool any updates on any modifications?

I ordered the frisbees Friday, so I will be expecting them some time within the next week. I have some fresh trim to use to experiment with the machine once I make the modifications and I will update ASAP.

It's been a week! I'm chompin' at the bit here! LOL! I hope all's well and can't wait to see how this develops.

good work

in the video, its hard to see why the bucket stays on the vibrator, how does that work?

and Im new to hash making except bho, so if this is stupid.... well.... but why couldn't you use that setup from the start for dry a ice hash technique?

Been experimenting with this setup. It's very clever but I haven't found a real use for it yet.

I had hoped to fill it with dried sugar leaves and popcorn, run it for a while and have friction knock the trichomes off. After a few hours I had enough, well for nothing. Tossed it in a bowl with weed. A cubic millimeter?

Seems clear that the material has to be pulverized first. I stopped doing dry ice sifting because it pulverizes so much plant material. While the resulting material has a higher trichome to other plant matter ratio than it started with, not enough to be real interesting to me.

Running pulverized material through the screens doesn't seem to change the good/worthless ratio much, just sorts them.

There still may be something worthwhile from this. Just need to find a way to knock just the trichomes off in the first stage.

Hmmm...what if everything was done in a "chest freezer"? The upright type of freezers probably do not have sufficient room.

Good idea, now lets see if we can help get it across the finish line.

Cheers!

Now that is ingenious. I bought some 160 micron to make kief but find it does flow through very well. Any suggestions? Do I need a smaller filter like 60 microns?

If you noticed in the video, the bucket spins and centrifugal force pulls the material to the outside of the filters.

Unfortunately there is no micron netting around the rim of the filters where most of the material is drawn to.

I've never seen these plastic filters (apart from the video posted), but here's an idea that might work...Center a weight like a one or two inch diameter magnet with the same size piece of steel to hold it in place (on the other side of the mesh) in the center of the mesh. With the ideal weight, the mesh will be slightly bowed down and so the plant material won't gather on the non-mesh outer areas.

Another way would to solve this problem if the mesh is too taut for the magnets to weigh it down would be to use a card or some type of stirrer to move the plant material around as it is vibrated to prevent it from gathering on the outer edges, when the resin heads have been removed from that layer, remove the filter and then start the vibrator again and work the material towards the center where the mesh is with the card or stirrer on the next filter and so on...a stick would work for the meshes with larger holes, but once you get down to below 150 micron, I think a credit type card would be more effective.

by the way, I don't think it is centrifugal force that makes the plant material pool at the edges, as I've noticed this same thing happening with rectangle shaped flat screen frames when a vibrator is applied to a stationary, non-oscillated frame..I think the plant material just spreads on a horizontal plane as it is agitated and the sides of the rectangles shaped screen frame or the circular filter edges simply prevent the spread and so it accumulates there .

Maybe if the springs on the vibrating unit I saw on the vid were slightly weaker therefore causing a greater undulations (or is that oscillation??) then the pooling would be much less?

I didn't take much notice of the mesh sizes on that video, but the first few seemed way too open for dry sifting purposes...I'd suggest* using 200 ~ 160 micron, 150 ~ 125 micron, then 70 ~ 50 micron. (* depending on your plant material) for this type of set up. I'd use 160, 125, and then 50 ~ 60 micron....add a 90 ~ 105 micron mesh filter if you want to get two resins (the resin that passes through the 125 but stays above the 90 micron and the resin that passes or should say is worked* through the 90 but stays above the 60 ~ 25 micron mesh) * you will also notice that once you get down to the finer meshes, vibration alone will not work as well for the resin heads to pass through the mesh openings, you will need to use carding with vibration for the resin heads to efficiently pass through 90 ~ 25 micron meshes.

Hey Mods, Please transfer this thread to where it belongs, the Hashish forum...thanks, C
