Two questions after first bubble run

Hey guys this was my first run using the bubble now and a new set of quality bags. Everything turned out well except I expected a bit more in the yield department.

First I noticed that it was easy to spray the actual hash through the screens. I felt like I was losing lots of hash by spraying the it towards the middle. Every time I would try and spray it towards the middle I was spraying it through the screen itself. This was especially noticeable for the 90 and 73 screens.

I know the bags are quality because I got bag set recommended by a true hash master.

Second question being is yield related to ratio of ice to water? I mean I am wondering if you get more yield with more ice due to decreased water temperature. I ask because I bought 120lbs of ice and was running out towards the end (lots of trim) so I just scimped on ice instead of running out and buying more. Was this a bad idea? Wondering if tons of ice is absolutely necessary on every run.

Hope to hear back. Thanks guys.

re : yield
Ice water hash yields can seem small compared to dry sifting, but that's because the ice water bags generally produce a much purer result, more pure = less of it....With all things being equal ice water and dry sifting will remove the same yield of resin heads, the difference is that the ice water hash will contain less broken up plant matter.
Use magnification to check out the plant material after running it through the bags...what do you see? If you see there is still more trichomes on the material, then run it through the bags again (with more ice).

re : spraying
Did you use a 25 or 30 micron bag also?, if not then you were probably throwing lots of the potential yield down the drain

re : bags were quality
All bags, cheap and expensive can produce great quality and maximum yield, it all depends on your technique.....but cheap bags tend to wear out quickly, while the Bubble Bag bags will last for years and years. Some brands lack quality control in the manufacturing process and sometimes they fit the wrong mesh to what is labelled on each bag..this might be what is wrong in your case. Use magnification to compare each bag and you should see that mesh from largest eg 160, to 125, 90, 73, down to the finest/smallest opening mesh bag 25 micron should be visibly smaller than the previous one, if not then contact your retailer for a replacement or refund. ..or more likely it is probably a case of the trichomes on your starting material were finer than 73 micron.

re : yield and ice
The best ice hashers always recommend using lots of ice and very cold water for best results...using the Search feature on the top of the page to find out lots more about how to get the best results.

Hey man thanks for the reply(s).

As far as spraying yes I was using 220, 190, 120, 90, 73, 45, 25.

The bags I was definitely thinking maybe the screens were mislabeled so I will go ahead and check with magnification.

Sounds like more ice is ALWAYS better.

I always figure that the water won't get any colder than 32 degrees F, so I use just enough ice to keep the temp there.

I'm no expert on Bubblebagging, but doesn't the ice also acts as "roughage" (iow as an abrasive) too to help knock off the trichomes from the plant material, not just to keep the water cold?

Yeah, it definitely does. I guess it's a matter of deciding how much is enough for the job. I haven't noticed reduced yield with less ice, but I haven't kept a close comparison either.
