Any suggestions on what to use for this? Something other then allot of mason jars. Someone suggested a fish tank which seemed like a good idea.

curing needs a sealed container, so you either go for large freezer bags (ziplocs) or big foodsafe containers. they need to BE foodsafe so they DON'T add smells to your weed.

You can get larger resealable containers than Mason jars. I've seen some that could easily hold a lb at a local general store (large one with all kinds of different stuff). They're not that expensive either.

If it was mine I would dry it in a small room or closet @ 60% humidity for two weeks or longer depending on density. Then I would drop the humidity to 55% for an additional week or so, then vacuum seal and store. For me this gives the best flavors with no risk for mold which can happen in large containers. Even with small jars moisture can build up in areas with little air flow.

searching amazon for "airtight storage containers" turned up a bunch of large airtight containers.

But as mentioned before, the food grade buckets would be a cheaper route. I don't know if I would bother with the gamma seal lid, unless you feel like spending the $10 on a lid. Brewing beer requires a complete airtight seal and we don't bother with anything that fancy on our buckets.

I used 5 gal food grade pickle buckets with rubber gaskets in the lids for an easy lb +/- strain dependent......sometimes 2 with denser varieties.......but....

I never tried to crowd my curing nugs so the burping would allow adequate breathing for that solid month process.....regardless...

Food grade pickle buckets were cheap round my parts and served me well for many yrs , but whatever works where you are is what matters......many options to choose from....

Peace....DHF.......:ying:.....

If you get the half-gallon mason jars then it's not really a ton of them for just an elbow. It only takes 4 or 5 of them per pound depending on how fluffy the bud is.

You could cure in a 5 gallon bucket. I have found they hold at least 1.5 lbs wet, and they would hold more than that dry. It is air tight enough to cure with the lid snapped on. If you don't think so you could just wrap saran wrap around the top just to be sure. I like my shit sitting in a vacuum though, and a plastic 5 gallon bucket will collapse if you pull a vacuum on it.

It may sound a little strange but i have a friend who cures large quantities in the cornelius kegs that he uses for his home brewing....stainless steel, air tight canister. He also makes use of the co2 normally used to carbonate or 'prime' the kegs full of beer by using it to displace (burp) all the oxygen from the canister....no air and no light = no mold and no degradation.
He swears by using the C02 in all his storage vessels, which is the food grade sealed lid buckets that have already been mentioned.....He has pot that's been stored for years and always comes out as fresh as the day it went in and he swears he has never had any mold since he started using this method.
Seems a sound and legitimate theory to me....C02 (or nitrogen) is used in food preservation methods so why not the ganja as well!
