Ever heard of a 600w MH bulb giving serious problems to plants before?

Eyeglasses will almost always protect from UVB, so you're probably good mate. :)

Mmm. . . not sure about that, I get the cheapest reading glasses form the supermarket shelf, dont think they'll be very filtered to UV. Not something to worry about for now though.

Great news, all my plants are bouncing back from there near death experience beautifully, amazing what just a couple of days without being burnt with UV can do. all new growth now has no glossy growth. My problems of now are solved.

Thanks for your help guys :tiphat:

Even the cheapest ones will filter a good portion out, but perhaps you can throw some goggles over them for the full 100%?

I have had old cheap/generic bulbs cause more light bleaching than the UltraSuns that I usually use. I thought it to be rather interesting to see.....Which, FTR, UltraSun bulbs are obviously still "cheap" by some standards, but good quality IMO.

Just my .02.

Well, with a little recovery time from the dodgy bulb, my ladies have improved beyond my expectations. I though they were gonners at one stage and now they're looking really good.

I've just switched them to 12/12s, bear in mind that all plants were sat comfortably on just 4 of the 16 tubs that the pots are now individually sat on, or look back at the photos on the first page of the thread and it gives you some idea of their speedy recovery.

I'm thinking of leaving the MH on with the three HPS (Sunmaster), as opposed to 4 HPS. I'm going to switch MH with HPS in two light units for the first 2-3 weeks, then all 4 HPS (if I can control temps, summer 'n all) to see if it does what its supposed to do without loss of yield, avoid stretching as much as just under HPS. Anyways, that's bye the bye, just letting you all know the vast improvement the plants have made since removing the bad bulb. F*cking weird one though!

Thanks, Trev

Um...if the bulb is bad, you'll have UVC emissions as well

I just remembered when I bought my bulbs at the grow store they asked do you want the good ones or the cheap ones? and I went with the cheap ones because I didn't have a lot of $ -- the cheap bulb was skinnier than a regular MH and looked very cheaply made. I like the UVB theory....

Same Problem with Vegetable Plants

Same Problem with Vegetable Plants

Hi Everyone,

I have been troubleshooting and searching for an answer for the last 3 weeks as to what is going on with my system. I am currently running a 1000 Watt Double Ended MH Bulb made by a company called Sun-Power Lighting. I planted seedlings (2 weeks old) in a NFT Hydroponic System. I was having the same issues as described in these threads, and have been troubleshooting everything to find an answer. I moved my basil plant (which is in dirt) under this light to see what effect the light had on it. In 5 days this is what happened to the leaves. Best part is that these bulbs were not "cheap". I paid almost $50 for it. Does anyone have anymore links to information on this? (UV damage from bad bulbs) On the package I noticed "Made in PRC" Yep, Peoples Republic of China. I am assuming this is the issue. Anyone else using a Double Ended Metal Halide Bulb? If so, what would you recommend? Please see attached picture and let me know your thoughts. Thanks for taking the time to read, and please comment if you have any information.
