the garlic chem male by cannaventure it's very garlic...i've grow pck x chem and hog x chem and the garlic pheno it's dominant

^^ I grew out 1 Seedsman Afhani #1 and it had below average yield, was airy type buds, and thin sativa looking leaves.

The smoke was sedating and taste was typical afghan to me. For some reason quite often I would have some trouble breathing right after I smoked it so I shit canned it all. Allergic?

High was fairly strong but not knockout stuff. I would say you could take it 9 or 10 weeks in flower.

Hi mate yeah I seen your post. Was any HID lights used or was it just that 26w uv?

I was kinda worried about whispy bud aswell. We got 4 going atm (amongst other strains) and all the afg's grew quite stretchy for indicas. The leaves are long 9-bladed skinny leaves too.

This one's the shortest out of the lot. We chopped off the fan leaves along the main stem (which was very long, skinny leaves)

Do you think this one will take as long as 11 weeks? (Seedsman say 7 weeks, but I don't believe them. I don't even believe it's an afghani#1).

TIA

Hi mate. I know someone who's about to flower these. Can you give any description as to bud structure, yield, taste, flower times etc? I can't seem to find any decent info anywhere on these afg#1 from seedsman.

TIA

My experience was that they were typical Afghan cultivar plants. Short, fat leaves, tight internodes. Very uniform plants, you would have thought they were clones during veg. Not much variation in the finished product, fat tight nugs. Yield was average to good, 8-9 weeks flower. Typical sedative Indica high, nothing special, that's why I only grew it once. Looked NOTHING like the plant pic from Grossett's Dad. This was around 2005-2006 though, no telling what may have changed.

Got some really funky stuff when I crossed it with C99. Gross tasting. Rotting meat smell and the most horrible taste I can't describe. Gave it away, though it was mad potent

AF #1 I used high quality LED overhead and fluoros on the sides and a uvb cfl in the middle. Great light combo, most growers will not get close to it in quality of spectrum. A cmh with added uvb would be about as good.

I took mine 12 weeks but 10 would have done alright. I like dark trichs on the lower buds and that takes more time than most will allow for. Was waiting on a NL that never darkened on the pistils of the top buds so that was the main reason for waiting.

The high was typical indica so I guess the leaves looking sativa could be a fluke? Welderdan saying his were short fat leaved plants makes me wonder I was conned here with the seeds.

Ya mon that doesn't look Afghan#1 to me, looks very Sativa Dominant, but that doesn't mean the Geno can't be an Indica in the profile, Either way it's not Affie in the true spirit of Afghans.

For real though what is up with these seeds?? I fucking love disgusting smelling strains, thats my shit. I got a pheno in what I thought was Deadhead OG f2's (ended up being herm bagseed, with a surprisingly strong non-herm female offspring ratio) that smelled straight up soiled baby diaper with a hint of lemons. Shit was strong as fuck and burned the nostrils with its funk. I love those powerful odors that, if you weren't looking at a beautiful flower, could make you hurl.

MkUltra, Deathstar, Sour Cream, and Chem D are all great for that then :)

MKU I've come across smells like garlic and halitosis, Sour Cream is even stankier... Shit smelled like vinegar and a rotting pastrami sandwich from a deli

Holy Fuck that sounds fucking disgusting, hopefully you can still smoke it, I am not really into the disgusting smell or the floral ones, I like the spicey chemical smells, what are the best strains for such smells.

Peace

I've never had anything that smelled particularly gross. Moldy, yes, but rotting meat, no. I don't think I'm really missing out though lol. Rotting pastrami sandwich? No thanks!

To me and my taste buds, the grosser it smells the better it tastes - most of the chem and sour family coat my mouth with flavor, which I love :)

Gelado,
I mainly got that smell from MNS Ortega (NL1*NL5) and MNS Medicine Man (widow*skunk). the Ortega was my first time running it but I had about 30 females and its supposed to smell like berries. but every single one had the onion metallic smell.
. . .
I posted something about this on the MNS forum, hoping to investigate the cause, but everybody went off on me telling me I can't talk about the onion smell in any forum because they're supposed to smell like berries and I'm calling Shanti a liar and I'm trying to put them out of business. blah blah blah
those people are a bunch of mindless assholes. I don't go on that site anymore.

anyway since everyone went off on me I never got a chance to find out what brought out the onion/metallic smell pheno. you know a lot of times they say "you determine the phenotype just as much as the genetics do". I thought about starting a thread on here to see if anyone knew what kind of conditions bring out the onion metallic smell. but I cannot stand that smell so I was hoping to avoid it.

Lammy

Hi Lammy,
I think I was the last post in that thread. I was shocked at how you were treated. Not only that, but most of the replies were incorrect. Passionately, aggressively, incorrect :)
If you haven't seen my reply to you there, please check it out.

Buying Ortega to find a "berry" pheno is not a good plan. Despite MNS description, the berry pheno is only 20-25% of the offspring.
Your experience with the "onion" smells is much more common (most people use other words that onion to describe it, but the smell is there.)

Lots of great berry strains out there. Nothing at MNS is a "berry strain" per ce, but many of their strains will throw berry phenos.

To the OP asking about stinky, garlicky strains, all the recommendations of the Chem line and chem hybrids are right on. May also want to look into something like MNS Nordle which from all appearances is kind of a modern, stabilized (inbred) version of super skunk.

Last suggestion would be to go on seedbay and search on garlic, road kill, etc and see what pops up.

My keeper pheno of Satori had a garlic tone to it, but it was smothered in the aroma of hash!

I'm definitely picking up some Satori and Beyond the Brain--totally sold on them. I will also look into Chem crosses and that Ortega sounds good too. So many strains, so little time!

Hopps and Cannabis are both from the Cannabaceae family, that's why it smells similar, because they both contain the same or similar terpenes. Beer and Cannabis loved recreatiuonally and therapeutically by all, is it any wonder mother nature has this all figured out for us, and it still satisfies after thousands of years of production.

Peace

You are so right I love both and make my own beer too.its so easy and much better than you can buy just like weed! Peace

Hmmm, I'm going to hold off on the MNS Ortega as I hear it has a high tendency to herm, and is descended from Maple Leaf Indica via a guy called Ortega!

Why Shanti decided to call that strain Ortega is beyond me. Confusing at best.
MNS Ortega is not a descendant of MLI or the Afghan T or Afghan S that Nev got from Jim Ortega (among other things.)

It comes entirely from the NL line and produces phenos across the family: NL5, NL1 (hashplant), and NL2 ("kush").
Reports of herms are inconsistent at best. I had zero problems in my run.
Zero. It was easy to grow and very nice.

My opinion on the herms for what it is worth: Environmental problems. Common suggestion is to lolly pop the larf branches off the bottom after stretch finishes as that is where they have been reported. People associate it with low light. I ran mine under T5s.

Its a very good strain with a high quality average pheno and maybe 10% to 20% that are something special.

I'm not pushing it. Its a good versatile breeding tool, and I found 1 out of 5 females that great effects for me.
If you have light leaks everywhere, poor air movement/exchange, experimenting with nutes and making frequent mistakes, or a hot room, maybe you should worry.
Otherwise, I would not pass on Ortega just because of some herm reports if you have a rockin room and need what she offers.

On the other hand, there are some amazing indicas out there and available in seed.
I'm not sure what you are looking for specifically, but it's a great time to be running beans.

I just woke up, but that's exactly what I read a few weeks ago...that Shanti got at least part of the strain from Jim Ortega. When I'm a little more awake I'll find it. ;)
