"Joint" Question

Hey everyone, just an update, 15 days after surgery. I have begun physical therapy 2 sessions per week and things really are healing fast and am making good progress. I want to thank everyone who has contributed with professional advise, as well as the goodwill wishes. All the the words of encouragement have meant alot and hearing from all those who have experienced the same or similar procedures was very comforting. Except for the small setback this has gone very well and I have no regrets. I know i'm sounding like it's all over, knowing I have a more recovery ahead, but it really feels that the worst is over.

I hope if another member is looking at having this procedure done, maybe this thread can answer some questions for them. I know it's made a difference for me knowing that support was a message or two away.

One more picture of my knee (I promise) showing progress at 15 days.

Thanks to all, KS

Hello Piel,
Sorry to hear about your difficulties with knee replacement. I think improvements are being made to these product and upgrades will happen as needed. Good to hear about positive experience with your semi joint. My Dr. removed arthritic tissue from around my kneecap and that the spot that hurts worse than the joint replacement.

Your knee is coming along nicely. Keep up the PT. I do mine twice a day.

Thanks Drift, I've always healed quickly and with the P.T. started, (2nd session today), I think It's going well. My Physical therapist said things usually heal quick when the flex # is 120 as mine was on the first visit after inhome.

Good looking knee young man! Not much of a scar either. How much weight are you allowed to put on it?

Hey thanks Piel, kinda having 2-3 good days and then maybe 1 bad. Really been surprised at how small the scar is showing at this point. Never was told any weight limit. Left the hospital walking with a cane and now completely on my own. Still using ice and a knee flex machine. Still using pain meds but am at 1/2 the dosage from last week.

Kief Stoned, how does the knee feel now?

Making any noise?

Hey justpassnthru, thanks for checking in on me. Will be 3 weeks tomorrow since surgery. Still healing, but seems like it's taking forever. Walking down stairs is the most painful motion at this point, with all the weight placed on the left knee joint and then back on the right. I'm not hearing any noises but I do feel a slight popping when climbing stairs, up or down. I suspect the swelling is maybe pushing things out of alighnment and causing the popping. Really amazed at how accurate the descriptions everyone gave me at the beginning of this surgery has turned out to be at this time. Sure was good having a heads up on the amount of pain and the lenght of recovery time.

Have my 3rd PT session tomorrow and hoping to get more electro shock on the quadriceps and some bicycle time.

I had a total knee. A partial is a special job and most likely, will lengthen your recovery a bit. With the diligent work you've given this, pretty soon, you may have to look to see which knee has the scar to recall which knee, had the partial.

In the old days they sometimes had weight restrictions, seems that some surgeons stick with old ways -old isn´t always bad.

Congrats! Every day is a step forward :)

Hello TopCross,

Thanks for the kind words and welcome to ICmag. Been a long 3 months recovery and I am pretty much back in action. Still sore but have regained most of the mobility in the new knee. Had lots of support from people here in this forum offering sound advice. Lots of pain in the first few weeks but mostly gone now. Just have to put the big boy britches on and bear it for a while but is worth it to walk without hurting.

Hey Keif,
Glad to see ya back in action and the pain is down to a dull roar. I got on the treadmill for the first time 2 days ago, with Dr.'s blessing. Hope to be back riding my motorcycles within a couple of months. Those big boy britches can be a real pain from time to time but in the end it's all worth it.

Knees and hips pretty easy to replace. I'm 50 and been having problems with those joints for a long time. Back in '84 a doc wanted to remove the cartilage in my left knee. I said no and still hanging in there.

Hey Drift, good to hear your making progress. It does take a lot of effort from yourself to make the recovery work. I hear stories of knee patients having to go back for a second surgery and the joint having to be 'force flexed', and sometimes damaging ACL in the process. That was motivation enough for me to get with the program and avoid that torture. There was also some depression that popped up occasionally but I had plenty of the right medication for that, and it didn't come from walgreens. lol

take care, Kief :)

Good to hear you're dealing with the problems. The surgical procedure for hip and knee replacement may be pretty easy but the recovery for knee replacement is not easy at all. I think hips are quite a bit quicker to rehab.
